This is the last chance to register for the education events happening on Saturday 19 September 2026.

Please forward to your current and former members, plus target any volunteers you think should be at this event as these opportunities will help support your club's delivery this coming summer season.

Education Opportunities 19 September 2026

There will be multiple education opportunities throughout the day that cover two very important aspects of our sport: Officiating & Coaching. In order to support the sustainability of our sport in the region, we put these opportunities on for our community to get behind to increase their confidence, get an understanding on officiating and coaching athletics events, and gain the skills to help at your local club or at larger events.

To make coaching course opportunities accessible to the Hawkes Bay Gisborne community, the Centre will be covering the cost for participants to attend the CAD Level 1 modules.

Officials Level 1:

A beginner level officials course that covers areas of athletics including: athletics rules, best practice and a open book discussion based assessment.

Coaching Athletic Development (CAD) Level 1 modules: Middle Distance, Sprints & Hurdles.

A quick look at the 10 k Road Champs results shows Steve Lindsay with 3rd in the 70-74 age grade in 46:37.
Ex member Eric Speakman won the 35+ Masters event in 31:13 with Tom Bridgeman 2nd in 33:08.
Another ex member, Laura Langley, won the 10k senior walk in 51:13

Athletics HBG are looking at service awards for services to the centre.
If you know anyone who may fit the below criteria to the centre then let us know and we will send you a nomination form to fill in

SERVICE AWARDS
The Centre may award a Hawkes Bay Gisborne Athletics & Harriers Service Award to any person who has rendered service to the Centre for a period of at least 10 years.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP
The Centre may award a Life Membership in recognition and appreciation of outstanding service by an individual to the Centre.
Nominations will be forwarded to the Annual General Meeting

Nominations to be in by Friday for catering purposes.

HBG AWARDS 2025-26 SEASON

Hawkes Bay Gisborne Athletics & Harriers are pleased to welcome nominations for awards for the 2025-26 season. A list of the awards on offer are attached. Anyone is able to nominate someone or their club from the Hawkes Bay Gisborne region, so share far and wide.

The window of performances is 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.

Nominations are now open and will close on Friday 28 August 2026 at 7:30pm.

Tairāwhiti it's your turn!

Over the 10th and 11th October, Athletics New Zealand and Hawkes Bay Gisborne Athletics & Harriers are delivering a plethora of athletics education covering coaching and officiating.

To support the region and upskill local volunteers and kaiako, these courses cover crucial aspects of athletics that promote great athletics experiences for athletes.

Officials Education Day
This entry-level Level 1 course focuses on gaining the basic understanding of officiating at club night and regional events. Sheelagh Prosser, ANZ Officials Development Officer for Central Region will be delivering by video meeting and Jordan Peters will be on site to support.

DANNEVIRKE, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

On Sunday 4 October, Athletics New Zealand and Hawkes Bay Gisborne Athletics & Harriers will be hosting Coaching Athletic Development (CAD) Level 1 Throws modules for Shot Put & Discus.

This coaching workshop will focus on the key aspects of coaching athletes in the throwing events, exploring implement management, delivery, rules and athlete preparation.
