FANTASTIC FUNDING NEWS FOR THE WAIKATO INDOOR CENTRE

Waikato Tennis Trust is super excited to announce that we have secured grant funding from Energy Trust to install a new LED lighting system in the Waikato Indoor Centre.

This is a significant upgrade for the Indoor Arena, which is enjoyed by our tennis community and a diverse range of community organisations throughout the year.

The new lighting complements the additional lighting and court resurfacing projects already completed or planned as part of our ongoing Waikato Tennis Centre improvements.

A massive thank you to WEL Energy Trust for its continued support of our facility upgrades and for helping us provide an even better experience for our community.

We also acknowledge our in house grant funding superstar, Rosie Smith, for the considerable mahi involved in preparing and securing these grants, and our Trust Chair, Jason Cargo, who works behind the scenes to build strong relationships with community partners and funders.
Their combined efforts help us share the Trust’s story and continually improve what we offer our community.

The timing of the installation work will be confirmed soon.

We cannot wait to see the Waikato Indoor Centre shining brighter than ever!

SUMMER BUSINESS HOUSE TENNIS

Hamilton Squash & Tennis Club’s popular Summer Business House Competition is back for the 2026/27 season.

Starting Monday 5 October, the competition offers a fun mix of tennis and socialising, with free sausage sizzles, weekly bar tabs and themed nights.

Teams can include four players and up to four reserves, with any combination of gender and playing ability.

Grades available:

A Grade, Competitive
B Grade, Intermediate
C Grade, Social and Beginner

Matches are played at either 5.30pm or 8.10pm.

Team entry is $640 for the 16 week competition.

On Sunday 16 August, a team of 20 Waikato juniors travelled to Rotorua for a friendly fixture against Bay of Plenty. Despite the wet, cold and very windy conditions, the matches went ahead, with Waikato coming away with a fantastic 24-18 victory. Well done to all the players for their resilience, attitude and effort throughout the day.

A big thank you to Coach Theo for supporting the team, and to Tom Li and Brendan Kay for driving the vans.

Special thanks to Brendan Kay for initiating the fixture, coordinating all the arrangements with Bay of Plenty, and securing a complimentary van from Ebbett Toyota Te Awamutu. Your efforts helped make the day possible.

Congratulations to the team on a great result and for representing Waikato so well!

Every pair is guaranteed at least three matches, with prizes up for grabs and a light meal included.
Entry fees are $35 for one event or $60 for both events.

Give Wheelchair Tennis a Go! 🎾

Tennis NZ & Parafed Waikato are excited to invite you and your whānau to a Wheelchair Tennis Have-a-Go Session at Lugton Park Tennis Centre on Saturday 12 September from 10:00am-11:30am.

Whether you're new to the sport or simply keen to give it a try, this fun session is a chance to learn the basics, get active, and connect with others.

What you need to know:
📍 Lugton Park Tennis Centre (Outdoor Hard Courts) 60 Old Farm Road, Hamilton East
🎾 Tennis rackets and sports wheelchairs provided
🧢 Bring a drink bottle and hat
🌧️ Wet weather plan - inside court to be used if wet
🎁 Spot prizes up for grabs!

We're also pleased to offer subsidised ongoing coaching opportunities for participants who would like to continue playing after the session.
