Well done to our Academy players who played in the Waimai tournament over the weekend. There were some fantastic games. Special congratulations to Liam for receiving the most improved player, George for winning the 0-goal as part of the Farmer’s Transport team, and our Team of Champions winners: runners up in the 0-goal for Te Akau Racing- Liam, Jay, Jonty, and Zach. 📸 Photo credit to Sandra.

We are so thrilled to be working with top sport scientist From this year! Repost from

Just wanted to share the key elements from our latest Polo paper, as it’s behind a paywall.
- we looked at player HR throughout a 16-goal tournament, 7 games total, 1 game went to 7 chukkas
- player HR was pretty high throughout, with all players showing true HRmax values within most games
- Nicely, HR was sensitive to game variations (always good to see that)
- HR was correlated to a small/moderate extent with a couple of variables (green = positive; red = negative), but not as strongly as we thought it might do
- we put this down to players changing horses to preserve game intensity, but this comes at a cost to the player. That cost is an elevated HR
- long story short, to play good Polo, you need to be able to maintain a high average HR in order to maintain performance of your ponies. This will vary within and between games, but ultimately if you’re not fit enough to go hard for ~10min with minimal recovery, you may be limiting your horses’ performance by being on them.
big thanks to our Polo partners in crime as always
