Kiwis love to ignore problems but chronic pain gets so large and constant that eventually it’s occupying a space in your head.

For every action there is, there’s the second thoughts…

“How should I do this” “SHOULD I do this” “Will I be ok if I do this”

And the question that caused my very own turning point

“Am I going to be like this forever”

Lauren did all of these and more…

But recently we turned a chapter because she gained enough separation from the pain to reflect on it instead

And it took time, it wasn’t an overnight success.

This is how we did it:

Strength training two times a week, regular movement outside the gym

And a very strong principle: Every exercise is a core exercise.

Slowly her body learned to trust and offload spinal pressure to it’s supporting muscles

Her tune has changed drastically:

“Wait… I haven’t had second thought during movement in days”

“I don’t overthink my training now because I know it’s safe”

“Out of 10 (10 being fantastic, no pain at all), I’d have to be at a 9”

This is the benefits of strength training, even for someone with chronic back pain for over 10+ years…

It’s incredible what Lauren has achieved, I just wish more people knew!

FACT: People living with these conditions usually know their bodies and boundaries incredibly well, sometimes too well

My job is to understand how we can safely begin “extending” those boundaries.

With fibromyalgia, we might be balancing energy levels, safe movement, recovery and muscle growth.

With scoliosis, we might be finding movements that feel safe, can be performed consistently and build long-term strength.

With chronic low-back pain, joint issues or training at 65+, we’re doing more of the same:

Establishing the right entry point and gradually building from there.

One thing all my clients have in common is that when the session begins, the mental backpack stays at the door.

Not because I don’t care about what you’re dealing with.

Because You might arrive carrying anxiety, uncertainty, previous setbacks and years of guessing what your body can safely do.

And I’ll listen to all of it. I’ll understand it. And I’ll use it to coach you properly.

And now I’ve heard you, it’s time to begin trusting what your body is still capable of doing.

What its likely been asking to do for a long time:

Move.

But sometimes that can look different…

Debbie has lived with fibromyalgia for most of her life, and we’ve previously made some great progress together in the gym.

But we haven’t been able to train together for the past few weeks.

She didn’t needed another workout

She needed a 30-minute phone call so we could talk, make a plan and keep her spirits high until we can begin moving forward again.

Because it isn’t always about strength training inside the gym.

But it’s usually where rebuilding trust, movement and strength begins…

If pain, a long-term condition or uncertainty has made you feel like strength training isn’t for you, let’s have a conversation and find your starting point.
