This week's SASFC Team of the Week is 12th Grade Navy, who had a great game vs Western AFC Warriors at the weekend.
Some great attacking football took the team ahead at the break, but the visitors fought back and defended strongly in the second half to take the win. Leo was Coach Joe's well-deserved Player of the Day.
You can get a beautiful watermark-free A4 colour print of any of these photos by making a $20 donation to our Player Hardship Fund. Simply flick a screenshot of the one you like to [email protected] – or leave a note in the comments – and we'll get it delivered to your door.

St Albans Shirley FC are really excited to announce the appointment of Miguel Paiz as the club’s new Football Development Officer. A renowned Guatemalan international who played at the highest level for his home country, Miguel arrives in New Zealand with an impressive track record both as a player and a coach.
Miguel is already a familiar face at SASFC, having coached our Junior and Youth players for the past two years, and with the expansion of our Summer Programme has quickly become a key member of the player development team. He is an active member of the Thunderpanthers, our Div 1 Seniors First Team, playing futsal as well as the outdoor game, making him an excellent role model for our aspiring youngsters.
When you combine his passion for the sport, his proven ability to help young players grow and his calm and gentle personality, it was an easy decision to get Miguel into a more senior capacity at the club. His invaluable playing experience and a strong background in marketing brings both a unique perspective and a raft of new ideas to our coaching team.
Miguel’s new role coincides with our Head Coach JD Dennen taking up his new position as Director of Football, and JD is relishing the challenges that lie ahead: “I’m genuinely excited to be working alongside him and seeing the impact he’ll have on our players and our club, as we continue to build the strongest Junior and Youth Development club we can be”
Following the recent departure of Matt Holmes as General Manager, and the transition to a new management structure aimed at building on his great work over the years, JD and Miguel will certainly be working hard to take that legacy into the future and sustain the positive momentum we currently enjoy at SASFC.
Bienvenido, Miguel!

Our SASFC Team of the Week is 10th Grade Red, who took on Cashmere Technical's 10th Grade White at St Albans Park this weekend.
A really fast-paced game in which our boys had lots of attempts on goal, repeatedly thwarted by a very good Cash Tech 'keeper. We're sending healing vibes to Ted, who Coach Matt awarded awarded Player of the Day, after he suffered a knee injury towards the end of a game & whose marauding attacking runs really set the tone for the entire match.
As always, a beautiful watermark-free A4 colour print of any of these photos can be yours by making a $20 donation to our Player Hardship Fund. Simply flick a screenshot of the one you like to [email protected] – or leave a note in the comments – and we'll get it delivered to your door.

Here's the draw for tomorrow, Saturday 15th August ⚽⚽⚽
Not a bad morning in store weather-wise, maybe a bit chilly but forecast to be dry with any rain arriving later in the day on strengthening southwesterlies.
Have a great game, wherever you're playing tomorrow!

It's been a while since we've featured a Team of the Week, but the seemingly endless wet weather finally turned a corner this weekend, just in time for our awesome 11th Grade White to take the honours.
A very close encounter with Selwyn United's 11th Gold produced an eleven-goal thriller that went right down to the wire. Our boys were devastating in attack but Coach Jason awarded Player of the Day to Neyon for a truly outstanding goalkeeping performance.
As you can see, we got loads of great shots of the action and you can get a beautiful watermark-free A4 colour print of any one of them by making a $20 donation to our Player Hardship Fund. Simply flick a screenshot of the one you like to [email protected] – or leave a note in the comments – and we'll get it delivered to your door.

It is with deep regret that we announce the resignation of Matt Holmes from his role as General Manager of St Albans Shirley FC.
Matt’s involvement with the club began as a volunteer parent coach, and further to joining the SASFC committee in 2014 he became a driving force of radical change at the club.
During the ensuing 12 years Matt has been instrumental in taking SAS from fielding just 60 Junior footballers in the 2014 Mainland Winter Season to a year-round operation with a strong presence in every age group, and a total membership of over 500 players.
Matt’s unwavering commitment to grassroots football has galvanised strong community involvement in the both the sport and the club, attracting the generous support of some awesome local sponsors, placing us in the resilient and future-focussed position we find ourselves in today.
We expect to announce Matt’s successor in the very near future, ahead of his final day in post on 23rd August.
Everyone involved with the club, in any capacity, will undoubtedly share our immense gratitude to Matt for his tireless service over the years and wish him every success in his future endeavours.
