What a great day today delivering a SUP Safety course! We spent the morning thinking about knowledge, skills and equipment needed to plan and carry out a great SUP experience. Then in the afternoon we went out at Sumner to look at practical rescue skills! It was an amazing session and we even had a penguin come and check out what we were doing!
This course was free for participants, a big shout out to the organisations that made this happen! NZSUP fund the course and provide a wealth of knowledge and experience on SUPing safely. Coastguard New Zealand provided the classroom in their amazing facility in Sumner! Moana SUP & Surf provided some of their great kit for our participants to try out - including their inflatable SUPs and safety kit like the SUP buddy tape and the quick release waist belt. And lastly Christchurch Paddleboarding for helping to kit out anyone on the course who needed a few extra bits! NgÄ mini for everyone who made the course possible to help keep people safe!

Or maybe youâre a seasoned pro and just want a bit of an update and people to practice with. This session is for all ages and abilities. Children must be accompanied by an adult though!
The sessions will run from 10am to 3pm. The morning will be an inside session chatting about how to plan a safe SUP session, then the afternoon will be on the water learning some practical safety skills! You can either come for just the morning or the full day.
