Having the correct form is not sufficient if your distancing and positioning is not optimized for the correct target. Moving into the correct position needs to be accounted for for each strike, whether it is on pads, body shields, bags, as well as on the human body.

If your distancing and positioning is not correct you will naturally compromise your form and accuracy to strike the target. Practicing on targets is essential as well as correct visualisation when doing techniques in patterns and combinations so that all modes of training result in realistic outcomes.

Well done to those who stood up and performed the patterns in front of everyone. The demonstration showed the difference in standards expected at different levels of advancement.

True advancement is not learning new things but about honing the basics and getting a deeper understanding of what you have done many times before.

It is sometimes easy to see that there are some differences, but truly understanding the specifics required to perform the forms well is not as simple. Often your perception of the standards are not as clear as it can be.

Shift-Turn-Punch. We have all been taught this basic concept of Shao Chi Chuan, however many were yet to fully understand the importance of executing these steps with the preciseness and accuracy it truly requires.

Feeling the full weight transfer and completing each stage before the next is important to develope true effortless power. The timing must be perfected through feeling, visualisation and practice. It was great to see the breakthroughs many of the students made at camp just from this segment alone!

What an amazing camp hosted by the Blenheim branch! Near record attendance numbers, great venue and amazing dinner and company.

Thank you to all of those who contributed to the planning of the camp from transport, accommodation bookings, gear lending, and of course the organising by camp commander Mr Alan Speck and his team.

It was back to fundamentals! The message to get real improvement across the board from top to bottom was well received by all this year. Our members really started to see and understand the differences that were demonstrated in all of the basic syllabus.

Next year's camp will be hosted by Auckland!! 28-29th of August 2027! As well as a special mini camp in Queenstown on the 3rd of April 2027! Save the dates now!!!
