Round 2 of the Golf New Zealand Secondary Schools Final is now underway!

Burnside High School start the day with a 5-shot lead over King’s College, but all is still left to play for.

There’s been a little bit of surface moisture around this morning, with the greens running at 9'6".

If you’re around today, come on down and have a walk around the course. It’s a great chance to see some of the next generation of NZ golfers out there representing their schools and hometowns.

Good luck to everyone out there today!

🏌️ A BIG WEEKEND AHEAD AT THE ISLAND!

This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one at McLeans Island Golf Club.

⛳ Saturday MOD – 8.30am
This Saturday’s MOD is Irons Only off the Red Tees, but we’ve also added a second event to run alongside it – Irons / Hybrid.

These will be two separate events with separate divisions, giving those members who don’t currently carry or use many irons the chance to still get involved and have a bit of fun.

For both events, putters and wedges are allowed. The main rule stays the same – no drivers or woods of any kind!

🏆 NZ Secondary Schools Teams Final
Then from 12.00pm on Saturday, we welcome some of the country’s best young golfers for the NZ Secondary Schools Teams Final practice round.

The action continues with Round 1 on Sunday and Round 2 on Monday. The course is fully booked on both days until 2.30pm while the championship is underway.

If you feel like coming out to The Island and watching some of the next generation of New Zealand golfers, this is a great chance to do so.

A big few days of golf ahead at The Island! ⛳

⛳ McLeans Monday – Hole of the Week | Hole 1

We’re starting at the beginning this week with Hole 1, a Par 4 and the first challenge of your round at The Island.

Off the tee, there are two bunkers hugging the right side of the fairway at around 200m and 230m, so picking the right line is important. Before you tee off, take a look at where the pin is positioned. Being on the wrong side of the fairway can leave you with a much harder approach and quickly turn Hole 1 into a tricky start to the round.

A good tee shot isn’t always about hitting it as far as you can — putting yourself on the correct side of the fairway can make all the difference when attacking the green.

🏌️ Pro Tip: Check the pin before you tee off and plan your drive around where you want to approach the green from. Avoid the right-side bunkers and give yourself the best angle into the flag.

How do you normally play Hole 1? ⛳
