FROM JUNIOR TO PRESIDENT - TOM AGNEW TAKES THE HELM
Tom Agnew was officially elected as the Club’s new President at our AGM on the 26 August.

Tom is a hugely respected figure both within Sydenham and across Canterbury cricket. A current Premier Men’s player, he has amassed more than 250 Premier appearances and 500 wickets – an extraordinary record that reflects his longevity, consistency and contribution to the game.

At the Club’s AGM on 25 August, President Graham Harris formally tendered his resignation from the role. It marks a significant moment in the history of the Club when one reflects on Graham’s remarkable tenure.

Most notably, Graham steps down as the longest-serving President in the Club’s 131-year history, having held the role for 16 consecutive years. That surpasses the previous record held by G.T. Booth, who served from 1914 to 1929. The longevity of Graham’s presidency is particularly significant given the circumstances under which he first assumed the position. When the committee approached him in 2009, the Club had experienced considerable turnover among key officeholders, with many roles changing hands every two or three years. As a result, the Club was struggling to establish a clear direction and continuity.

Congratulations to Sophie Brandom on signing with Sydenham Cricket Club for the 2026/27 Christchurch Metro Cricket Association campaign.

The Devon County Cricket Club and Plymouth Cricket Club spinner will jet off to Christchurch for her maiden season overseas, adding further quality to Sydenham's ranks ahead of the new campaign.

Set to call Sydenham Park home for the summer, Sophie will be looking to make an immediate impact with the ball and play a key role as the club sets its sights on a strong 2026/27 season.

An exciting opportunity for Sophie and a fantastic addition for Sydenham.
