This is an interesting read. We have always found children swimming from a young age develop great motor and learning skills - a great reason to get your wee ones into lessons as early as possible!

A major study from Griffith University suggests that learning to swim early in childhood may be linked to faster development of language, mathematics, and motor skills. Researchers found that children who learned to swim before age 5 tended to show developmental advantages compared with those who did not, with some skills appearing months ahead. Swimming involves coordinated bilateral and cross-pattern movements that engage multiple areas of the brain and may support neural development and coordination. The developing brain is highly adaptable during early childhood, making activities that challenge movement, balance, sequencing, and coordination especially valuable. Swimming isn’t just teaching a child how to stay safe in water, it may also provide a powerful environment for learning and development.

Well done to our Canterbury Swim School swimmers who competed in the Have a Go events at the North Canterbury Swim Meet at Dudley Park last Friday and Saturday! (in the green caps).

Also great to see our swim school swimmers, Dudley King, Eli Korewha-Frew, and Alexander Khrapov who took part in the competitive events and swum some super awesome times.

Some great racing and efforts by everyone!

It was very close for the top team position which was taken out by the Bulls with 439.5 points, followed closely by the Tigers on 436, Cobras on 426.50, Dragons on 351, and Falcons on 318.

Thank you to all swimmers taking part, our staff, the Waitaha Club, and all the volunteers and parents who helped out and made it such a fantastic day. 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️👍🏼👏👏

Big congratulations and well deserved recognition for our very own Marlene Morrison in today’s King’s Service Award.

Kia ora whanau. We will be closed Monday 1 June for King's Birthday. We reopen 6.00am Tuesday 2 June.

We are still open and will have lessons as usual and casual swimming available on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May.

Today the Aiden Son pace clock was unveiled at our pool!
Aiden donated part of the prize money he won at SCWC Championships when he broke lots of regional records to the Waitaha Swim Club, so our clever coach Matthew bought the equipment and made the clock!

Thank you Aiden for your generous contribution which is really appreciated and a fantastic asset to our pool, and Matthew for your resourcefulness in making it!
