Wild Dogs won the toss and went for the safe option to bat first seeing that they only had 4 players ready to take the field.

As the toss took place in the centre of the Hagley Ducks domain, there was no way to avoid a fine for losing the toss.

Wild Dogs openers took the field, and the Hagley Ducks sent one back off the field shortly after.

After the Wild Dog's cage was rattled, a well composed partnership started built and both batsmen retired with hard earned 50(37) and 51(33).

The Hagley Ducks bowlers did a good job keeping the run rate low with Ed earning bragging rights with a maiden over and managing an economy of 4 runs per over.

Restricting the Wild Dogs to only 12 boundaries and a subpar total of 147, the Hagley Ducks felt confident going into bat.

Captain Rex made use of the opportunity and mixed the batting line up with Max and Ed opening the score book.

The Wild Dogs opening Bowler was not what you would typically find in the first over. Bowling at an astonishing 15km/h and looping it as high as a chip shot, he made the match interesting.

Max racking up 25(12), not sure about the stats but I am sure more than half of that was extras.

Ed carried on and knocked them around and ticked the box to a Maiden Half Century for the Hagley Ducks...

Shortly after Andre Du Toit lost his wicket after scoring 24(17) sending Captain Heindrich (Rex) and Andre vdK in to finish the job.

Rex was lucky to face 6 balls including a no ball and caused mayhem. If only he had the opportunity, we might have seen Scotty's Record of 50(13) challenged as Rex dished out four 6's and one 4 to end his innings on 32(6) not out.

Andre vdK got the strike and he was making the most of what was to over on the pitch. Starting the over with two 6's before his trusty willow ended their relationship by splitting in 2. With a quick replacement bat, he finished the job for a bonus point win for The Hagley Ducks.

With many options for MPV, it was Undoubtedly Ed who took it with his 50(32) and magnificent bowling figures of 4-16-0-1

With the last game of 2022, The Hagley Ducks hope to keep their momentum going into the Christmas Break.

23/11/2022 Game 5: Hagley Ducks vs. Reservoir Slogs

The mighty Hagley Ducks…

This weeks game went one of the three ways that it seems to go for us.. we bat well and chase down a good score, we bat well and defend the total but it’s close at the end, or we s**t the bed and lose by a considerable margin. I will let you decide how it went based on the following descriptions. Names redacted of course.

Heindrich Marais a.k.a Rex ‘won the toss’ and let the other team do what they wanted which was to bat first. We have played these blokes before so we knew what to expect in both innings, they have some good quality cricketers that would be dangerous if we let them get away from us with both bat and ball.

Myself and Andre took the first few overs and runs seemed to be relatively under control, a couple of overs Ammar Vithodawala bowled his first and took one of the top players with him, win to the Hagley ducks.

We toiled away until the end of the 20 overs with 2 batsmen retiring and coming back in, a questionable decision to get the 7th and 8th batsmen out because they couldn’t hit it off the block.. either way they batted through and managed to score 189/6

Our chase began well with myself and CJ Calitz zooming off to 35 off the first 3, this is where the wheels really fell off for the Hagley Ducks from the 4th over onward we proceeded to walk in and out from the middle of polo ground #6 at alarming speed, all out for 60 with Scott scoring more than half our runs with 32.

One bloke got 6 wickets for 7 runs… he only bowled 3 overs.

You know what they say, “a quick game is a good game” 🤦🏻‍♂️😭

09/11/2022 Game 3: Hagley Ducks vs Hot Diggity Dog.

Our Cappy Heindrich Marais won the toss and elected to field. Still on his winning streak... Or so he says🤔

The Ducks quickly realised that the hot Diggity were here to play, managing 227-4 in their 20 overs. Nothing to write home about for the bowlers. Andre du Toit again being asked to bowl the last over and again going for 12 runs on the last ball of the innings, (6 off the last ball of the innings gets doubled up to 12)

Plenty of fines racked up in the first innings.

A change of innings saw regular opener Scott Willoughby and stand in George McLean start the chase. George managing 45(25) but regular wickets meant the Ducks just kept falling behind in the chase. A blistering knock from Andre van Der Kaay 51(20) and a chip-in from Andre Du Toit clawed 'some' dignity back but all was a little to late as we managed just 166-7 in our 20 overs.
