Making blankets for our yoga classes. Kitties were curious and wanted to help 😅

Blankets are useful for chair yoga to help support the lower back.

Blankets are useful for mat yoga to enable the correct head alignment when in the floor.

🙏 Happy International Yoga Day 2026 🌿

Today our hearts and minds are full of gratitude for every student who shows up and practices with such commitment to their own wellbeing.

To make the time to move, breathe, and observe yourself in motion is such a beautiful thing. Research shows that mindful movement supports strength, balance, and functionality for both body and mind.

Thank you to the Retirement Villages who support residents to attend our classes. Over four years, that support has helped us grow to offer Hañsa Flow, Chair Yoga, Aqua Yoga, floor-based yoga, pelvic-floor supported yoga, and dementia-supportive yoga. 🌸

Every time I teach, I learn something from the class.

With love and thanks to Vicki Beatty, our students adore your classes and to my teachers Vincent Bolletta , Donna Farhi , and Dr laurentober . 🤍

Today, on International Yoga Day, our hearts and minds are full of gratitude. 🙏

To every client and student who shows up to practice with such wonderful commitment to their own wellbeing, thank you. To make the time to move, to breathe, and to simply observe yourself in motion is a beautiful gift to give yourself. Research continues to show that mindful movement supports our strength, our balance, and our functionality, for both body and mind.

We are so grateful to the Retirement Villages who make this possible — who believe in their residents’ wellbeing and support them to come along and practice with us. Over the past four years, that support has allowed our offerings to grow far beyond where we began.

We now share Hañsa Flow, Chair Yoga, Aqua Yoga, floor-based yoga, pelvic-floor-specific supported yoga, and dementia-supportive yoga. None of this growth and our ongoing professional development would be possible without the trust of our villages and the dedication of our students.

The truth is, every time I teach, I learn something from the class. That exchange is one of the great joys of this work.

A heartfelt thank you to Vicki Beatty for your wonderful support and teaching, our students love your classes. Deep gratitude to my own teachers, whose wisdom continues to shape everything I share: Vincent Bolleta, Donna Farhi, and Dr Lauren Tober.

Happy International Yoga Day 2026. 🌿

Wishing you a moment today to pause, breathe, and move with intention.

Seated seed practice for pelvis functionality and pelvic floor health

This gentle Hansa Seed Practice is how we begin many of our classes — with small, mindful movements that help integrate the body and mind.

In this sequence, we focus on awareness of the 'sit bones' and the movement of the pelvis.

Starting with a simple alignment check, we gently rock back on the sit bones, return to neutral, and then rock slightly forward with an inhale.

These subtle pelvic and lower back movements are foundational to everyday function — helping us sit, stand, walk, bend, and move in and out of chairs or cars with greater ease and fluidity. The breath with movement also supports pelvic floor tone.

Finding your sit bones is also the foundation of alignment in Chair Yoga. When both sit bones are evenly grounded, the spine can naturally lengthen and the body feels more supported and balanced.

It may seem simple, but this awareness can:
✨ Improve posture
✨ Reduce strain through the lower back
✨ Increase stability and balance
✨ Help movement feel smoother and more effortless

As the leading provider of Retirement Village Yoga, we specialise in making yoga accessible, practical, and supportive for every body.

🌊 Aqua Yoga Spotlight: Navasana (Boat Pose) 🛶

This week we're floating into Navasana — a beautiful shape for building core strength, and one that takes on a whole new dimension in the water.

Practising Boat Pose in the pool asks for concentration. The water gently shifts beneath you, inviting the deep stabilising muscles to wake up and engage in subtle, intelligent ways. It's a wonderful reminder that strength doesn't always look like effort — sometimes it looks like presence.

One of the things I love most about aqua yoga is how generous the water is with our bodies. Each sequence and shape lifts weight away from the joints, while gently offering resistance in every direction. The warmth of the water encourages fluid, flowing movement and helps muscles relax into the work.

For our students who find core work on the mat challenging — particularly those navigating joint sensitivity, balance concerns, or simply wanting a kinder way to build strength — the pool offers a truly therapeutic alternative.

Strong core. Soft joints. Steady mind. 💙

There is something quite magical about practising yoga in warm water. 🌊

Aqua yoga is one of our much-loved retirement village offerings and for good reason. It is one of the most supportive ways to build strength, mobility and functional movement, especially if your body needs a gentler entry point than a mat-based class.

The water holds you. It takes the weight off your joints, so you can move with freedom you may not have felt in years. And at the same time, that same water becomes the most beautiful, even resistance for your muscles to tone and strengthen against.

This photo shows leg bicycling, it looks like a simple movement but it involves the core, legs, and balance with a sprinkling of laughter.

(And may I say — it is considerably harder being the teacher demonstrating all of this from the side of the pool!)

Sequence for fluidity, mobility and functional movement.

This gentle Hansa sequence supports integration of the pelvis, spine, shoulders, and breath.

In this sequence, we explore awareness of the “sit bones” and the natural movement of the pelvis, gently rocking back before returning to neutral. From here, we add simple arm movements and a soft thoracic twist to encourage mobility through the rib cage, shoulders, and upper spine.

It is a lovely, accessible practice that supports fluidity and ease throughout the whole body.
These movements are deeply connected to everyday functional tasks — reaching to pick something up, turning to open a car door, standing tall, or simply moving with greater comfort and confidence.

As we age, the rib cage and thoracic spine can gradually become less mobile, which may affect posture, breathing, balance, and ease of movement. Supported seated yoga offers a safe and effective way to gently access and maintain this important mobility.
