Cambridge Runners-Up at Taupiri
A great result for our Cambridge team at yesterday’s Specsavers-sponsored tournament at Taupiri, finishing runners-up after three & a half wins and being pipped at the post by just one point in their final game.
The mixed format of triples, pairs and singles made for a great day, with Jack also making the final of the draw-to-the-jack competition and picking up an extra $50.
A big thank you to Bob Philpott for putting the team together. With Bob’s wife currently in hospital, the team’s thoughts were with them both and they were pleased to get a good result for him.
A well-run tournament, some great bowls and, most importantly, plenty of laughs and good company.
Well done team — a great day representing Cambridge Bowling Club💙🩵

What a great turnout for our Cambridge Bowling Club Monthly Open on Tuesday, 11 August, generously sponsored by Guthrie Bowron Cambridge.
With 28 teams and 84 bowlers filling both greens, there was a real buzz around the club from early morning. Bowlers travelled from across the Waikato, from Tokoroa through to Frankton Junction, joining seven Cambridge teams for a day of great competition.
Four games of eight ends produced plenty of close results, with six teams finishing on three wins. In the end, there wasn't much separating the field!
🏆 Congratulations to our placegetters:
🥇 1st – 4 wins: Jack Ottway, Larry Fitzpatrick & Grant Stow (Frankton Junction)
🥈 2nd – 3 wins & a draw: Don Cooper, Julie Hayes & Jill Smith
🥉 3rd – 3 wins & a draw: Steve Mills, Paul Millar & Roger Gray
4th – 3 wins & a draw: Sasi Wallace, Camel & Joks
5th – 3 wins: Bev McDavitt, Heather Davidson & Margaret McMillan
The competition was fierce throughout the day, but thankfully the weather played its part too, with the morning clearing to some lovely Cambridge winter sunshine.
A huge thank you to Guthrie Bowron Cambridge for their generous sponsorship and continued support of our club. 💙🩵
Thanks also to our Tournament Committee, greens team, kitchen and afternoon tea helpers, setup crew and everyone working behind the scenes to make the day happen.
And, of course, thank you to all 84 bowlers who joined us. Great bowls, good company, friendly competition and a bit of winter sunshine — another great day Around the Greens!

Central Optional 4's
Cambridge Bowling Club was proudly represented at Central Bowling Club Cambridge Winter Fours Open Tournament, generously sponsored by Summerset Cambridge. With a full green of 16 teams in action, the day showcased plenty of quality bowls, friendly rivalry, and great sportsmanship.
Despite a cool Waikato winter's day, bowlers enjoyed periods of sunshine that, combined with the winter conditions, made for some challenging playing conditions across the greens.
Regardless of the results, our Cambridge teams represented the Club with pride, enjoyed a fantastic day of bowling, and, as always, shared plenty of laughs and camaraderie both on and off the green. Well done to everyone who took part!

Mid-Winter Magic at the Club.
It was cold outside, but this didn’t affect the warmth of a great evening as more than 50 cheerful members enjoyed the fantastic Mid-Winter Christmas Dinner last Saturday.
Thanks once again to the tremendous effort of our favourite Social Committee (and others), the evening kicked off at 5:30pm with a complimentary flute of bubbles (Prosecco) for everyone to get the evening rocking and rolling. The music and festive chatter were only briefly interrupted by the draw of three hearty Christmas hampers, which went to three lucky winners.
Then came the highlight of the evening that everyone had been waiting for – no, not Santa – but a simply wonderful meal served by the evening’s caterers, Bite Time. And what a meal it was! New potatoes, roast chicken, vegetables and salads were served alongside the most succulent cooked ham you could ever hope to taste – it had to be seen (and tasted) to be believed.
And that was not all. The treat of the year followed for those who had left enough room – or naturally had a little more to spare – consisting of scrumptious apple crumble, creamy custard and mini pavlovas.
What a night it was! A special thank you once again goes to everyone involved in making the evening such a success for all who attended. Reluctant as many were to head home, the evening finished with members still chatting under the club’s floodlights as darkness settled in, while the timeless sounds of Dean, Frank and Bing gently faded into the night, leaving wonderful memories as we patiently await the real-deal Summer Christmas Dinner later this year.
So, watch this space! There will be one or two events before then, including the ever-popular Melbourne Cup event in November. Until then, Merry Mid-Winter Christmas to everybody, and may summer arrive sooner rather than later!

Cambridge Central Bowling Club takes Out the Annual Derby
A foggy start to a winter’s day did not deter 48 keen bowlers from the two Cambridge Lawn Bowling Clubs from fronting up on Wednesday 15 July to contest their annual trophy tournament.
Sponsored by Alf Cox from Cambridge Central Bowling Club, the tournament took the form of 4 games of 8 end triples. Played in the spirit of friendly rivalry, the 24 players from Cambridge Central Bowling Club uplifted the trophy from last year’s winners, Cambridge Bowling Club.
Hat’s off to all the players for their grit and determination and special thanks to Alf for once again supplying a welcome 24 bottles of excellent wine to the winning team.
Watch out Central, we’ll be there to reclaim the trophy in 2027!

Another great day was held at Cambridge with our monthly tournament. Sponsored by Printech, one of our local print experts in Town.
We had 32 teams from all over the Waikato and the weather didn't deter some good bowls with 8 x 3 game winners and 2 x 4 game winners.
Our next monthly tournament is 11th August and our 2 day 4's is on 29th and 30th August.
