Just because something is labelled “healthy” doesn’t mean you need it.
This is something I think we can easily forget, especially with the huge number of foods now marketed as healthy snacks.
Nuts, rice crackers, pretzels, muesli bars, protein bars, bliss balls, dried fruit…
Some can be nutritious, but many are also very easy to eat in larger quantities than we realise, and the calories can add up quickly.
And there’s another thing I think is worth considering…
If you’re constantly filling up on calorie-dense snacks throughout the day, you may have less appetite for the foods that provide plenty of volume, fibre, vitamins and minerals, like vegetables, fruit and whole foods.
I’m not saying you can’t eat these foods. I’m saying don’t let the word “healthy” make you automatically think you need to eat it.
Instead, build your day around proper, satisfying meals and let snacks be optional.
Ask yourself:
💭 Am I actually hungry?
💭 Is this going to add something valuable to my day?
💭 Could I simply wait until my next meal?
Healthy eating isn’t about constantly adding more “healthy” foods. It’s about getting the overall balance right.

Protein powder… do you actually need it?
This is a question I get asked a LOT, so here’s my honest take.
I’m team FOOD FIRST. 🥩🥚🐟
I would always rather see you getting the majority of your protein from real, whole foods.
Because food gives you so much more than just protein you’re getting a whole package of nutrients, vitamins and minerals and, depending on the food, things like fibre and healthy fats.
And there’s another reason I prefer food…
You actually have to CHEW it!
There’s something about sitting down, chewing your food and actually eating a meal that is much more satisfying than drinking your protein.
BUT…
I absolutely believe protein powder has a place.
If you’re busy, short on protein for the day, need something quick after training or simply struggle to get enough protein from your meals, it can be a really useful tool.
It’s convenience, not a replacement for food.
So my approach is:
🥩 Food first
🥤 Protein powder when it’s useful
And you don’t need to overcomplicate the powder either. Find one you like, with a good amount of protein and ingredients you’re happy with.
Protein powder isn’t magic.
It’s simply an easy way to add protein when you need it.
So tell me…

Creatine… one of those supplements that seems to have SO much hype around it.
But is it actually worth taking?
My opinion? YES.
It’s one of the supplements I’d put at the top of the list for both men and women.
And as we get older, I think the conversation becomes even more important.
Maintaining muscle and strength is a huge part of healthy ageing. And for women, the menopausal transition can be a time when we see greater changes in muscle and lean mass. That’s one of the reasons I’m particularly interested in creatine for women.
But I want to be clear, creatine isn’t magic.
It works best alongside the things that matter most:
💪 Strength training
🥩 Enough protein
🥗 Good nutrition
🚶♀️ Regular movement
😴 Quality sleep
And here’s something I see people do with creatine:
❌ Take it one day and miss the next
❌ Take it only on workout days
❌ Take it for a few weeks and then stop
Take it consistently.
What I do?
Get up → take my creatine → brush my teeth → get on with my day.
Make it so routine that you don’t even have to think about it.
And when you buy it…
Keep it simple.
I recommend sticking with creatine monohydrate in powder form and looking for one that is 100% pure creatine monohydrate with nothing added. You don’t need fancy blends, added ingredients or gummies.
Powder. Pure creatine monohydrate. Done. For most adults, 3–5g a day is the commonly used amount.
So if you’ve been wondering whether creatine is something you should be taking…
Hopefully this answers some of your questions.

“But I’m eating the same as I always have… so why am I gaining weight?” 🤔
If you’ve found that maintaining your weight has become harder as you’ve got older, you’re definitely not alone.
One of the reasons is that we can gradually lose muscle as we age. Less muscle + less daily movement can mean your body is using less energy than it once did.
And this is why I’m such a big believer in strength training for women 40+. 💪
It’s not about eating less and less.
It’s about building and maintaining muscle, eating enough protein, and keeping your body moving.
You don’t need to fight your changing body.
You need to work with it. ❤️
And if you’re not currently strength training, I want to help you get started.

WHAT YOU WONDER WEDNESDAY
One of the biggest worries I hear before people head away is…
“I’m scared I’ll undo all the hard work I’ve put in.”
The good news? A holiday doesn’t have to mean starting over.
You don’t need to eat perfectly or skip the foods you love. A few simple habits can help you enjoy your holiday, make amazing memories, and come home feeling good.
❤️ Move every day.
🥩 Prioritise protein.
🍽️ Choose the meals that are truly worth it.
😊 Eat until you’re comfortably satisfied, not overly full.
Remember, one holiday won’t undo months of healthy habits, just like one healthy meal won’t transform your health overnight. It’s what you do consistently that matters.
