Thirteen years after competing at her first Nationals, Emma McCaughan is still finding new reasons to love aerobics.

The 23-year-old Astra Gymnastics athlete has grown up in the sport, as a competitor, teammate, coach and judge, with the people and community around her playing a big part in why she continues to come back.

Now, after a challenging road to qualification, Emma is heading to another XP Gymnastics Nationals with one simple goal.

Sweatember starts today!

September is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, and our charity partner Cystic Fibrosis NZ is encouraging everyone to get movin’ and get groovin’ for Sweatember.

Choose how you want to move, set yourself a challenge and help raise funds to support physical activity grants for people living with cystic fibrosis.

It takes a great team behind the scenes to help make the XP Gymnastics Nationals happen.

We’re looking for volunteers to join us at Mercury Baypark, Tauranga, from 29 September–3 October, with a range of roles helping support the event and create a great experience for our athletes, coaches, officials and wider gymnastics community.

Whether you’re already involved in gymnastics or simply keen to get involved in one of our biggest events, we’d love to have you with us.

From climbing the furniture at two to his first Nationals as a senior.

At 13, Bay of Plenty men’s artistic gymnast Abel Standen has already competed at four Gymnastics Nationals, but this year brings a new milestone.

After a tough 2025 season, Abel made a decision over summer to approach this year differently. Now qualified for the 2026 XP Gymnastics Nationals, he’ll make the step into senior competition on home ground in Tauranga at Mercury Baypark.

For Abel, the journey is still about what has kept him in gymnastics all these years – the mates, the memories, and having fun.

Some fantastic results for our rhythmic gymnasts in Japan. 🇳🇿

Eight New Zealand athletes celebrated podium finishes at the Tamara Cup, rounding out a valuable development tour and international competition experience.

What if your gymnastics journey took you to Denmark? 🇩🇰

Gymnastikhøjskolen i Ollerup (Official) scholarships are available for 2027, giving eligible Gymnastics NZ members the opportunity to spend six or 12 months studying, training and living at one of the most recognised international gymnastics schools.

This is a chance to step outside your usual training environment, meet people from around the world, experience a new culture and develop through sport, movement, leadership, and adventure.

You'll take part in a wide range of activities and choose from specialist gymnastics and movement options including performance tumbling, rhythmic gymnastics, dance, TeamGym, and power tumbling.

If you're an active Gymnastics NZ member and will be 18 or older at the start of your study, this could be an opportunity to experience something very different from your usual gymnastics journey.

A successful week at the 2026 Australian Gymnastics Championships last month! 🇳🇿🥇

A huge congratulations to the athletes who returned home with medals following another successful campaign across the Tasman.

New Zealand was proudly represented across aerobics, men's artistic, rhythmic and trampoline, with athletes gaining valuable international competition experience against strong Australian opposition.
