Ponsonby Rugby Club – Proudly Supports Global Games ❤️🏉

Ponsonby Rugby Club is one of New Zealand’s most historic and successful rugby clubs, with a proud legacy of producing All Blacks, Black Ferns and generations of players who have represented our club with distinction.

Success runs throughout Ponsonby, from our proud Senior Rugby programme through to one of the largest and strongest Junior Rugby programmes in the country.

We’re especially proud to have been the first club to believe in Tyrone and Carla’s Global Games vision. Both are proud Ponsonby Rugby members, and it has been awesome to see their vision grow into something so special for young rugby players and their families.

In 2026, we’re incredibly proud to be sending 10 Ponsonby teams to Global Games across three festivals.

From the Ponies of today to the stars of tomorrow, we’re proud to support Global Games and the opportunities, experiences and lifelong memories it creates for our kids.

A number of defections for today's U13 tens tournament saw a reduction in numbers participating. However the quality of rugby produced for all that were present certainly made the the trip to the Springs worthwhile. Auckland, Counties and North Harbour were all represented by teams from clubs in their respective unions. These youngsters will be part of a bright future for our game.

Our Fillies 10s side went to Coxes Bay with a small degree of anticipation after their good win last week. However visitors Eden carried too many guns for us and ran out easy winners. If we are to advance further in the competition is in the lap of the gods as the points table appears to be far from up to date.

Our U11 Baby Fillies vs Waitemata Rugby Club

Former Ponsonby captain Waharai Waitohi poses with Northland number 8 Terrell Peita and the Ranfurly Shield. The pair have both earned their forty game blazer for Ponies Prems as has last night’s fullback for the Taniwha Jordan Trainor. Robert Rush who played his Under 21s rugby including 5 Premier games for Ponies also made a huge contribution to the outcome of the match.
Great effort Northland who have now moved to the top of NPC standings, albeit with weekend matches to come in the round.
