These custom board reviews are so very important for building a better picture of how my boards are going for the individuals who order them and how my models are geling with the intended customer.
Colbert sent through this absolutely epic review on his recently purchased The Muzz model . Travis went epoxy as his intentions were for a performance groveller for his Muriwhai local , its hard to see the model defining hip in the tail on his but it is very much there.
The white board in the photos is the orginal hand shaped by myself and Mario.
The Muzz model came about via a shaping class with M. D , I knew as soon as we were into putting this board together it was gonna be a winner.

I was after a small wave groveller that still maintained a solid performance edge for my first epoxy surfboard.
Johnny really took the time to listen to what I needed. He looked at my current surfing situation—factoring in my ambition, weight, and fitness level—and recommended custom board dimensions specifically tailored to me.
The board itself is amazing. The volume is spot on, it’s fast and super responsive underfoot, and it turns sloppy waves into an absolute blast to surf. It turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. I am beyond happy that I now have a decent option when the waves fall short !
I’d highly recommend anyone looking for a new board to move away from funding foreign shaping companies and support our talented local shapers instead. Pop in and have a chat to Johnny, and support local :) 🥺😁👌🙏💥

Another fantastic review just dropped!! Leyton ordered these two customs for a Mexico trip !
Words and Mexico trip photos from Lantern
Leyton Broom
I ordered two custom boards from Johnny, I wanted a quiver to take on a trip with me. We got straight to business and I really enjoyed the process of talking to him about my requirements and also just sort of getting to know each other a bit.
I ended up choosing a tripper model as a step up and a Clam quad. The boards came out so bloody beautiful and with custom paint jobs it just feels that much cooler to know that no one else has a board the same. The tripper is superb. It is a serious board. It is dependable And predictable in the best possible way. I’ve taken it out and some bigger waves and the thing performs as advertised. The glassing job has held up to my use.
The Clam is handsdown the best surfboard I’ve ever ridden. There’s just something magic about it. It took me awhile to dial in the quad, but Once I did, it just felt like the Coolest super responsive high speed board and it puts a grin on my face every time.
Johnny knows his business. I would buy from him Again, without thinking.

Another Tripper model out rhe door recently for 6'6" proper step up for indo. A guy came into the shop.the other day and asked whats the advantages of a custom over a stock board
The first major one is strength, we glass customs to last longer then pop out boards, my glassing system and process allows me ro use heavier cloth without affecting overall board weight
The second one is attention to detail !! We tune a board to your surfing skill , paddlabilaty needs and weight. tuning a board simplified means leaving foam in certain areas and taking foam (foiling out ) from other areas to achieve a maximum connected feel.

So stoked on this build, 🙌 5'11" x 201/4" x 21/2" 33.12L
DANIELLE DEBAUGH is the daughter of a mate
Troy de Baugh we grew up surfing our local The Port back in the mid to late nineties, what a buzz making a custom for the next gen .
I used to make boards for a crew of south aucks surfers , Troy's brother Adam DeBaugh got s few board off me to back then too
Dani and I talked out her requirements coming off a long board and a mid length, she was riding dad's Jdub Surfboards nz. dirty hipster model for a bit too. This mini mid length has now got a solid place in my range its great for transitioning from bigger boards to a shortboard feel while retaining paddlabilaty and stability.

A classic build for a unique board, this is a great example for why custom surfboards cater to a broad customer base.
Troy was wanting to replace a couple of boards he really liked and wondered if it was possible to morph the to shsps together , blending the tail section of one board yo a gun type outline in a 8'2" package.
This board has a lower overall rocker then a full gun shape to be able to surf a broader wave range and still be able to take on serious boom waves

Full gun shape for , triple flyer swallow tail, five future fins plugs for setting up as predominantly a quad. Just layed down the Olive green colour .

Repeat customs here for and these guys have had a couple of boards from before and its the most ideal relationship for both parties, I get to know what works best for a customer with a progressive partnership.
The extra benefits also include a great after sales service including priority surfboard repairs at a reduced price based on loyalty, better pricing on accessories, deck grip, fins , board bags, jdub merch etc at better then recommended retail for a repeat custom surfboard customer.
Makes real sense supporting a local shaper with your best interest and surfing experiences in mind.
Thanks fellas very much appreciated the ongoing support 👍🩶🙏

Some photos from the last shaping classes I ran with , he wanted a board that was stable and a great paddler , he had seen a tomo shape he admired so we worked on an outline with those characteristics while keeping all thd elements he was wanting in a board .
Edward had hands on in all aspects of the hand shaping build , templateing , planning thr board to thinckness , adding rocker and concave positioning; quad fin placement and finishing gauze
Edward wanted a resin tint and came up with a colour , I recommended a quad set up for stability and
