Our Volley Blacks 🏐🇳🇿 have arrived safely in Japan ahead of the AVC Continental Cup 2026 🫡

This year, there’s even more on the line, with the winning team securing their ticket to LA28 🏐🇺🇸

We’re in for some seriously good volleyball as the top teams from across Asia battle it out for a spot at the Olympic Games 👀

THE ROAD TO LA28 STARTS HERE 🗣️

The Beach Ferns and Beach Blacks are heading to Shangluo, China for the 2026 AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Championships, and there is more than a continental title on the line.

From 2–6 September, New Zealand’s four pairs will battle it out against the best teams from across Asia and Oceania, with an Olympic quota spot for LA28 up for grabs.

2026 Oceania Senior & U20 Beach Volleyball Championships 🏐

Expressions of Interest are now open for athletes interested in representing New Zealand at the 2026 Oceania Senior & U20 Beach Volleyball Championships in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

Open to Open Men, Open Women, U20 Men and U20 Women.

📍 Rarotonga, Cook Islands
📅 Competition Dates 13–16 October 2026
✈️ Travel: 11–17 October 2026
⏰ EOIs close: 4 September 2026

The Championships offer an opportunity to compete internationally and earn FIVB Beach Volleyball ranking points.

Forever a Volley Fern

Our volleyball community is mourning the sudden passing of Kyla Te Wano Greensill

To know Kyla was to be loved by Kyla. She had a warm and adventurous heart and loved her family, her people, travel and volleyball.

She represented New Zealand, Aotearoa Māori Poirewa and Waikato across indoor, club and beach volleyball, while also giving so much back to the Waikato volleyball community through coaching, volunteering, playing and supporting those around her.

Kyla made her Volley Ferns debut in the 2024 Trans-Tasman Test Series before once again wearing the fern at the 2025 AVC Nations Cup in Hanoi.

Even while recovering from her ACL injury, Kyla was never far from the game she loved. She could be found on the sideline supporting her friends, around the Waikato beach volleyball courts or travelling with her whānau. Last November, she and her whānau even made the trip to Adelaide to support our Beach Ferns and Beach Blacks at the World Championships.

After months of rehabilitation, Kyla had finally returned to the court this year alongside her Huskies whānau at the most recent Midlands weekend.

Her time on court was cut far too short, but her impact on our volleyball whānau will be felt for years to come.

To Nikki, Ra, Leikyn and all of Kyla’s whānau and friends, we send our deepest love, aroha and strength 💗

Volleyball New Zealand is deeply saddened by the recent passing of a valued member of the Waikato volleyball community due to meningococcal disease.

Their impact on volleyball has been felt across the country. They have been a valued part of our volleyball community for many years, giving so much of their time, energy and passion to the sport alongside their whānau. The lasting impact they have had on the people and communities around them will forever remain a part of our volleyball whānau and their legacy within the sport.

Our thoughts are with their whānau, friends, teammates, the Waikato Volleyball Community and everyone who is grieving this loss. We ask that the privacy of their whānau and wider community is respected as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

With Zonal competitions continuing over the coming weekends, we also encourage everyone in our volleyball community to be aware of the signs and symptoms of meningococcal disease.

The National Public Health Service has advised that close contacts have been identified and provided with appropriate treatment and support. Other contacts have been assessed as low risk, with no increased risk to the wider community.

Please take care of one another, stay informed and seek health advice if you have any concerns.

🏐 Applications are now open for the Tania Dalton Foundation Scholarship!

Volleyball New Zealand is inviting eligible female athletes to apply for this three-year scholarship, created in honour of New Zealand sporting legend Tania Dalton.

Recipients can receive up to $5,000 per year, along with mentoring, personal development opportunities and support to help them grow both on and off the court.

Eligible applicants must be in Year 10 or Year 11, competing at regional or age-group national level, and able to demonstrate financial and/or circumstantial hardship.

Our Volley Blacks are heading to Fukuoka, Japan to compete in the 2026 AVC Men’s Continental Cup!

The team will tour from 29 August–14 September, with the competition taking place from 4–13 September.

A new chapter begins for volleyball in Aotearoa. 🏐

We’re proud to announce Debbie Hyland as the new Chief Executive of Volleyball New Zealand.

After leading the organisation as Acting Managing Director since March 2025, Debbie now steps into the role permanently, bringing a wealth of experience as a former New Zealand representative, executive leader and passionate advocate for our volleyball community.

With our He Ara Whakakotahi 2030 Strategic Plan guiding the way, we’re excited for what’s ahead as we continue growing the game from grassroots to high performance.
