A huge congratulations to Logan Assink and Natasha Mouat on their selection for the upcoming Netball New Zealand national tournaments! 👏🏐

🌟 Logan has been selected as an umpire for the 2026 NZ Secondary Schools Championships, as well as being named as a Reserve Umpire for the 2026 Netball NZ Open Championships.

🌟 Natasha has been selected as an umpire for the 2026 NZ Secondary Schools Championships.

These are prestigious national tournaments and an incredible recognition of the commitment and continued development you both put into your umpiring.

Netball New Zealand is excited to announce the umpire appointments for the 2026 NetballSmart Netball NZ Open Champs and NZ Secondary Schools Netball Champs

The Netball NZ Open Championships will take place at Rodney Green Arena in Napier from 10 to 13 September, followed by the NZ Secondary Schools Championships at Auckland Netball Centre from 6 to 9 October.

📣 IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM OUR UMPIRE CONVENOR

Please remember the correct way to approach umpires and seek clarification during a game.

If you have a question about a rule, ruling or something that has happened during the game:

1️⃣ Wait until a quarter-time or half-time break. Only the team captain can approach the umpire and seek clarification. The captain may take the player concerned with them.

2️⃣ Coaches, managers, parents, spectators and club delegates must not approach an umpire at any time during the game.

3️⃣ Do not ask an umpire to “watch” for contact or another infringement. Instead, phrase it as a rules question. For example:
“If the GD pushes the GA from behind, is that contact?”

4️⃣ Always communicate politely and respectfully.

5️⃣ During the game, any player may ask the umpire to repeat what has been said.

If you have an issue or concern about an umpire:

❌ Do not speak directly to the umpire.
❌ Do not stop the game.
❌ Do not tell the umpire what to do or what to call.

✅ Please come to the Umpires’ Office and ask for the Umpire Coordinator or a senior umpire to attend. They are the only people permitted to approach the umpires during a game and will help address any issues they observe.

Remember, umpires are learning too, and even the best umpires make mistakes.

Please be kind, think before you speak and ask yourself: Would I want my child or family member to be spoken to that way?
