It was the final round of the Waiuku Dirt Track Club’s winter rally sprint series yesterday so we threw some clothes (panels) back on ‘The Mistress’ and headed out for a skid!
Running the in-road is always a good time, grabbing 5th gear and letting her sing never gets old! I’ve got no idea what speed we are doing but it feels a lot quicker than it looks in this video! 😂
A slight drizzle in this run is all we got for the whole day. The road was awesome which is a credit to the volunteers who without, these days wouldn’t happen!
I didn’t check the times all day so at prize giving I had no idea where I would end up. There were whispers it was close between Les Swain (1000cc crosscart) and I! Turns out close ended up being an understatement! But I came away 1st in class AND fastest outright for the day… how bloody good! Also an added bonus was we drove her on the trailer relatively clean!
Massive thankyou to the club and all the volunteers! It’s always such a fun, relaxed day out in the forest. A big thankyou to my old man Curly for all his help as usual and to Michael and Lance for the help getting the car ready. I also need to thank Saskea for always supporting me with these last minute decisions 😂 Also a big thankyou to my sponsors and supporters 👇

Awesome to catch up with Mike and the Hooncorp team last weekend at the Waiuku Dirt Track Club rally sprint series! Thanks again to Lance Matthews for throwing me the keys to his weapon of a car 🔥
Tap the link and have a listen to this 100% planned and definitely not out of the blue interview 😂
Yesterday I was behind the steering wheel again! Lance handed me the keys to his Falcon dirt track car and I very nearly owned it! 😂
Another great day at Waiuku Dirt Track Club’s forest rally sprint series. We left ‘The Mistress’ clean and dry in the shed and had a ball with Daniel Taylor as passenger princess all day in the mighty 4litre 💪

Always loved a moody forest picture of a Cougar Race Cars off-roader! I think the Kumho Tyres NZ livery is looking sharp amongst the tree’s!
Big thanks to Cory Mewis Photography for these wicked shots! 📷
Bit of a late update for us but it’s been hectic down here at J&C Motorsport! Last Sunday we went out for a slip and slide through the forest with Waiuku Dirt Track Club at round 2 of their winter series. It was great to get back behind the wheel! Our brake issues are hopefully behind us thanks to V-Dub Shoppe for getting the rebuild kits out to us so fast and the car ran great all day!
Big thankyou to the club and all the volunteers for putting on a great day as per usual! If you haven’t been out and had a look or gone for a skid at one of these events, you need to!
A massive thankyou to my old man Curly for always putting in the hard work prepping the car no matter how tired he is! Also to Simon Honey for all his help and support. After TECT Park he sorted the car out with a new front bumper, new nerf bar and changed the exhaust for me, legend!
Also a huge Thankyou to Kumho Tyres NZ for their continued support! The MT51’s hooked up awesome on the slippery forest base and I wouldn’t be competing without them!
On that note, jump on board for my final run of the day! Had a scary moment at turn 2 but ‘The Mistress’ and her freshly tuned Red Eagle Fox shocks saved my ass 😂 See you at the next one!

Despite the weather reports it’s an absolute screamer here in Waiuku so we’ve popped down to Waiuku Steel 'n Wheels Festival and put the Kumho Tyres Cougar Class 1 on display for the day! If you’re looking for something to do today come on down and check out the show, there’s something for everyone!
Can you guess how many times Mike stalled ‘The Mistress’ before he gave up? 😆
It was bath day today, we got her all shined up again and ready to start prepping for our next event! Huge thanks to Michael for his help, race clutches aren’t for everyone though 😉

These photos are by Justin Williams and Preston Scott Photography. Massive thank-you to all the volunteers for their hard work! I think the Kumho Tyres Class 1 looks pretty sharp in red 😎

🚨 ORANZ CT CIVIL NATIONALS ROUND 2 🚨
Long post again sorry!
What… a… day! 5am Yesterday morning J&C Motorsport headed down to Waikato Offroad Racing Club’s amazing track at TECT Park. Straight away a huge Thankyou to Mat and Mike for driving the 2 ute’s there AND back! Upon arrival the track looked amazing and we got our pit setup with fellow Red Eagle Suspension racer Scott Mitchell and along side Hamish Kelsey who we managed to convince to drag his old wagon out for a skid. Seriously though it was awesome to see him back behind the wheel! 🔥
Race 1
I got off to a great start! The car was feeling awesome after Nick from Red Eagle Suspension had given our Fox bypasses a birthday. She was cornering and jumping the best it has done in a long time! A good battle ensued for the lead against Tony McCall, I think I got the move done on the final lap and the rest is history! 😉 No more needed on that.
I thought our day was done. Back to the pits to cool off and the team absolutely ripped into the car! Before long I looked up and there were so many people offering a hand to get us back out there! It was awesome to see, a few key people were Lyall Marino, Kevin Cooper, Nick Leahy, Andy Paterson, Leon Matich, of course my team was amazing and everyone else that came over to offer assistance THANK YOU!
Race 2
Lining up after a repair like that under pressure it’s always going to play on your mind if things are 100%. I got an average start and the first lap was really just feeling out the car, she felt great so we pushed on! I got the move done for the lead at the final turn at the end of lap 3 and managed to hold on for a win in race 2. The least I could do to thank everyone for their efforts!
Race 3
Another average start and it was a fair old fight to get back into P2. After a few mistakes on my own it took a few too many laps to get the move done. by then McCall had disappeared… bu**er, second place.
Race 4
I wanted to end on a high so focused on my start this race. Got a great start and went side by side over the first jump and into turn 1, I had the inside line and took the lead and drove away from there! A really smooth race, hitting all my marks and the car was feeling awesome. Brought home a clean race and another P1!
Unfortunately after the race 1 DNF I was only able to come away 3rd in class 1 for round 2. A little gutting and hurts our points for the 2026 season.
BUT on the bright side the car is feeling awesome and a testament to that was posting the fastest lap time of the day for class 1 and class 8 combined 💪 the little Cougar sure is still quick!
A HUGE Thankyou to the club, all the volunteers, marshals, track prep crew, photographers, everyone who makes these days happen! Great club and awesome track!
My team - Curly Davies, Mat Cox, Simon Honey, Michael Johnston - Thankyou for all your hours of preparation and organising, I will never be able to thankyou enough. I honestly wouldn’t be on track without you guys!
