✨ Mānawatia a Matariki ✨

This year's theme, Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone, reminds us that Matariki is a time for everyone to come together.

Inspired by the whakataukī Tāmaki Herenga Waka – the gathering place of many canoes – the theme celebrates unity, belonging, and the richness of our diverse cultures. It reminds us that no matter where we come from, we all have a place to gather, share our stories, learn from one another, and celebrate together.

May we continue to strengthen our connections, embrace one another with kindness, and celebrate the many journeys that bring us together.

💜 Understanding Dementia Programme

Today we welcomed seniors, caregivers, whānau, and community members for a meaningful afternoon of learning, connection, and support.

Together we explored dementia awareness, practical caregiving strategies, available support services, legal planning (EPOA), and ways to stay connected with loved ones.

A heartfelt thank you to Dementia North, and Inspire Legal for sharing your knowledge and supporting our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their stories. Together, we're building a community where our elders are supported, understood, and never alone.

🌿 Elder Abuse Awareness Day – Quiet Confidence in Action

Last weekend’s Quiet Confidence session, “Calm Confidence in Uncertain Moments,” offered timely tools for grounding, awareness, and self‑assurance. Through gentle practices like stacking, understanding personal space, reclaiming one’s volume, and safe positioning, our seniors strengthened the confidence and clarity that help prevent and respond to elder abuse.

Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, social, or neglect. What we saw this weekend is that confidence, awareness, and connection are powerful protective factors.

At Elderhood, we remain committed to creating spaces where our elders feel safe, respected, and valued.

💜 Stand with us. Listen to our elders. Protect their dignity.

Today, on Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we honour the dignity and safety of our elders — and reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect them.
