“ I’m here beside you, to walk with you”

Would anyone like a counselling session this weekend? I am trying to get practice in before my RTP. It would be online and as a student with Manukau Institute of Technology I am guided by the NZAC code of ethics. (Also a student member) so everything you say would be private and confidential.
Just come with any genuine issue and let’s talk through it. (It does need to be a real concern, not made up) please message me privately so you don’t have to make a public comment here. 😊

This breaks my heart and simultaneously makes me angry. Angry because the funding isn’t there! Most primary schools are not funded to have a counsellor in school and yet it’s evident it’s exactly what they need. I’m sick of the tag line “it wasn’t like that in my day”
You’re right, it wasn’t. Because we live in a completely different time. So the more we can give kids spaces and opportunities to leave the baggage of the world at the door, take the heavy coat of expectations off and just be a kid, then let’s do it! If they need a meal, a chat, a space to breathe and be authentically them let’s create it. If only for an hour, let’s go. It’s not about blame, who should or shouldn’t be responsible for them. Let’s not put that on the child. This precious human is the future and they deserve that! They so deserve to see that.

I had this conversation yesterday so let’s look into it.
It’s not as simple as looking at your watch, staying in fat burning and bada bing bada boom 💥 you’ve lost fat.
The body uses (in basic terms) energy. So it will first use blood glucose (sugar) & glycogen (stored sugar) so think carbohydrates. Then it will use fat, then proteins or muscle as a last resort.
So if you have a lot of sugar floating around and stored and you use that then top it up again with sugar, you sit in this cycle of just burning sugar. Why would your body burn the fat when it’s getting all it needs instantly and easily. So yes you may be in fat burning zone in terms of cardio output, but your possibly not burning fat. This is especially true if you’re just doing a 30 minute workout. You most likely won’t even use all the sugar.
THIS is why what you eat to lose weight matters so much. YES cardio and strength training are important. But in terms of fat loss……
FOOD IS THE BIGGEST COMPONENT

A diet shouldn’t be misery! It should be something that allows you to live your life and brings you to your goal. It should be sustainable and allow for you to also live your life without feeling restricted from social events. Of course some habits will need to change and it may be difficult sometimes. But in the whole, you shouldn’t constantly feel like it’s difficult. Getting good advice and guidance matters. If you’re ready to make some changes, I’m ready to help. Get in touch and book a session to sort out your nutrition

July 1st. DRY JULY 🥂🍻🍺🍷🍸
I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in 13 years. I decided at 29 that I was done. Done with feeling like crap the next morning, done with wasting a day hung over, done with regretting the food choices I made after drinking, done with the health impact it had on me and done with drinking something that really has no benefits. Taking up the challenge of not drinking this month is a great way to dip your toes in the water. It’s just 4 weeks. See what happens in 4 weeks, what improves, what gets better. And if you start and realise you need help and support then get it. There’s absolutely no shame in admitting you can’t do something alone. In fact, how amazing is it that you came to that realisation.

Be aware of who you’re getting advice from online. It’s so important we do our due diligence before doing what someone online tells us what to do or take things when we have no idea about the quality & safety of what we are taking. Can if be harmful? Are there other medications or supplements you are taking that could react? Do you have a condition where taking this could make it worse?
Do I take supplements? Absolutely. Do I know what I take it for and where each one comes from? Absolutely.
Right now we are being bombarded with advice, pills and potions to help with everything from perimenopause to Ozempic style weight loss. The sad truth is, they target our insecurities and get us at our weakest. They over promise and under deliver.
The most common one I see several times a day is people asking
“What shake or pill can I take for weight loss?”
Sorry, there’s simply no magic answer. None will magically make you drop weight overnight while you do nothing else. Some will support digestion, balance blood sugar, fill you with fibre (domestic much) or provide a caffeine stimulant for energy & focus. But you still need to do the work!
And again, what is the quality of what you’re getting?

A few truths that may make you angry to read. But marketing and social media flood us with posts and advertisements that target our insecurities and weaknesses. They saddle up next to you like a long lost friend and lead you to believe they have all the answers to your problems.

For the people in the back row, muscle does NOT weigh more than fat!!! Do I need to say it again? If you jump on the scales and see an increase in 2kg. Sorry, but going to the gym 3x a week for 3 weeks didn’t build 2kg of muscle. I wish we did build muscle that fast and quickly, but you don’t! Muscle is more dense, takes up less room and is firm. Fat is jelly like and wobbly and spills out. And this is why muscular people look lean and toned. Theres less wobbly fat. But gain a kg of muscle or fat, the scale will increase by a kg.
So what does it mean if you are working out and eating healthy but the scales go up?
Chances are;
🥪 You’re not actually tracking food. Weigh & measure your food. Stop guessing because chances are you’re eating more = more calories
🤓 Read labels. Healthy, high protein, low carb, high fibre. Does not automatically mean you can eat as much as you like.
💧You have had water, food or need a 💩
🧂You had a salty meal.
