The Breakers Academy is back!

After a six-year hiatus, the Breakers Academy officially returns, marking an exciting new chapter in the club’s commitment to developing the next generation of New Zealand basketball talent.

The 2026 intake brings together some of the country’s brightest young players, who will have the opportunity to train in a professional environment alongside an outstanding coaching and performance team.

Welcome, Dave Mackay!
 
With more than 20 years working across school, community and elite sport, Dave Mackay brings a wealth of experience to the BNZ Breakers as our Mental Performance Coach.

A former General Manager of Auckland Basketball and Coaching & Programmes Development Manager for the Breakers, Dave works closely with our athletes on the mental side of the game, helping them manage pressure, build resilience and develop the mindset to perform at their best.

Welcome Aubrey!
 
We have completed our NBL27 roster, with 17-year-old Aubrey Chunga joining us as a Development Player this season!
One of New Zealand basketball’s brightest young prospects, Chunga has already made his mark on the international stage, helping the NZ U17s to an Oceania Championship and most recently earning a bronze medal with the NZ U18s at the FIBA Asia Cup in India.

The 6’5” wing has also impressed in the NZNBL with the Wellington Saints, playing big minutes throughout their run to the grand final and taking on some of the league’s toughest defensive assignments.
