Fabulous day out for the GBI winter shoot out, with 12 players, including two lads and four fabulous ladiesā›³ļø

Bit of a wild card comp, with members drawing another golfer’s name from the hat. If your golfer won even if you didn’t, you’re both winners of the monetary prize! Certainly added a fun little twist to the comp!

There was banter, fun, chip offs and some seriously good golf!

šŸŽ‰Congratulations to our very talented golfer Wood for taking out the winšŸ†
Don a well fought second, and as Jake drew Elizebeth’s name so also a winner.

Not quite a winner but a very good sport, Jed Philips won his money back and very generously put on a shout for….. ummm winning first …. to the bar 😊

Thank you to all who organised such a fun dayā›³ļø

Each year, the ladies from the Great Barrier Island Golf Club head away on a wonderful ladies’ golf trip

Our very first trip was held in Napier, and this year’s 15th adventure took us back to beautiful Whitianga. We all gathered at a large rented house organised by the wonderful Maxine, who always does an amazing job making sure everyone is looked after.

Special mention to Ann Crawford who makes the journey to join us each year, it’s amazing how she stays connected and still plays fabulous golf too!

The week is kicked off with a favourite tradition, the bedroom draw, each lady draws a number to discover where she’ll be sleeping for the trip. One year you might score the luxurious room with ensuite, and the next year the pull-out couch — it’s all part of the fun and completely down to luck!

The golf itself is always more about friendship, fun, and the challenge of playing different courses. This year we played two rounds at Whitianga Golf Club and one at the stunning Matarangi.

Thankfully, the weather gods looked after us beautifully and all games went ahead without a single cancellation.

Each club played was a fun challenge with the most welcoming members delighted to have us join in.

Of course, between golf games there was plenty more entertainment — shopping trips, dinners out, movies, and even a hilarious evening of line dancing. We also held our famous activities evening.

Each golfer drew the name of a famous movie star or singer and between games had three days to create an outfit. The results were absolutely priceless. We had Dolly Parton, Barbie, Tina Turner, Audrey Hepburn, Devil Wears Prada, Marilyn Monroe, Posh Spice, and whoopie
The winning outfit of the night, worn brilliantly by Sue Warwick, who was the unforgettable Amy Winehouse.
Being a fan of PINK my fav was Ann Jenkins fabulous pink Barbie outfit — everyone looked absolutely amazing.

Back to the golf results — congratulations went to the wonderful Margaret Mcallansmith who took out first place overall, with Sue Warwick coming second. Michelle Hartley-Scott,Best Putts. Our talanted golfer Margaret also took out Top Dog for the trip, while the lovely Anne Jenkins received the Holy Cow Award for her amazing improvement in golf throughout the weekend.

And FINALLY, the biggest excitement of the entire trip — Margaret scored a hole-in-one at Matarangi! It was an incredible moment, a huge celebration, we were all so thrilled and the perfect way to finish another memorable ladies’ golf trip.

We would absolutely love to see even more golf ladies join us on future trips. It really is such a fabulous time away — challenging ourselves on the golf course, sharing plenty of laughs, making wonderful memories, and enjoying the special friendships that make our golf club such a great community to be part of.

Long may the ladies’ golf trips continue!

HANDICAPS UPDATED - Handicaps have been updated so please check the notice board outside for your current playing handicap.

Also please make the cards as legible as possible, if it gets wet or messed up, write a new one out. Also make sure we can identify the people playing. Cheers!

A number of people have had their handicaps change.......🄹

Well played Jake Langford who broke 90 for the first time!

New holes on 2, 7, 8 and 9. Please don't rip the ball out with your putter or the flag. It damages the edges, if you can't bend down and pick it out ourself, get one of those things that fit on the end of your putter. Temu and Aliexpress have them!

It's pretty wet out there, wear your waterproof shoes if you have some, or bring a change of dry socks. 😁

Happy golfing.

IMPORTANT NOTE RE HANDICAPPING ON 9 HOLE SCORES:

If you're only playing 9 holes, it's highly recommended that you hold onto the card and make it an 18 hole score by playing off the other 9 holes in a future game, to complete the card before returning it.

It's a minor technical issue that will be resolved when we get new cards, the STANDARD SCRATCH on the current cards isn't 'balanced'. The difficulty of the holes is meant to be equally distributed on both 9s. It means if you return a 9 hole score your handicap won't be adjusted accurately.

Just hang onto the card until next time you play, do the other 9 and return an 18 hole card.

Also, please make you cards as tidy as possible. We're accumulating a few that aren't making much sense and they eventually go in the bin if we can't figure out who the players are on the card.

Many thanks!

Congratulations to Shane Pynegar who broke 80 for the first time yesterday. I played with him and saw him turn potential disaster into success on the 17th.
He took one club too many and hit his tee shot long into the bush.

He took a penalty, chipped up and sank the putt for an awesome 4!! Eventually going on to par the last and shoot an excellent 79.

Remember, it's never over until it's over!!!

Great focus and determination.

New target, 75???!!!
