Founded in 1934, our aim is to keep the tradition of recreational boating alive at Hobsonville.

Competitive sailing began at Hobsonville in the early 1930's which led to the formation of the Hobsonville Boating Club (HBC) in 1934. With the Defence amalgamation of Hobsonville and Whenuapai in 1966 to become RNZAF Base Auckland, the HBC was retitled RNZAF Base Auckland Yacht Club (RNZAF BAYC). However since the airforce base has moved from Hobsonville we are now known as The Hobsonville Yacht Club. Our aim is to keep the tradition of recreational boating alive at Hobsonville.

Roger, creator of the Wētā trimaran class, very kindly came out to HYC today to give us some advice and help to fix up this well-loved boat. ❤️

HYC members attended the opening of the Upper Waitematā Marine Centre - Te Pae ō Ōruamōkai - this morning. The lair of Mōkai, the guardian taniwha of our waters, watching over our community as we access, enjoy, and care for the upper harbour. Junior sailor Emily performed for the opening ceremony as part of the kapa haka group from local Hobsonville Point Primary School ❤️⛵️

The wait is almost over! From mid-April, Hobsonville Yacht Club will be moved in to our brand-new home at the UWMC. An exciting time for the club, with lots planned to make use of this amazing space. Now is certainly the time to get on board (pun intended).

Seasoned sailors, keen beginners, whānau looking for something to enjoy together - everyone belongs at HYC. Members will have priority access to learn-to-sail programmes, our diverse fleet and gear, a variety of learning and upskilling opportunities, and more. We prioritise safety and are keen to make our wonderful sport accessible to all.

With the move to the new Marine Centre, interest is high and spaces in our coached programmes will fill up fast. Be part of our new era ❤️⛵️
