Wellington Trip Update

What a weekend!

After our flights were cancelled, we had to quickly change plans, hire a van, and make the drive down to Wellington. Despite the unexpected start, we arrived on time, and the team rose to the occasion.

Our athletes represented Big Judo brilliantly, with some fantastic results:

Beyond the medals, everyone showed great determination, resilience, and sportsmanship. The team did the club proud, and it was a successful trip all round. On to the next one!

Judo New Zealand would like to Congratulate Noah Walliss on being the reciepient of the Jim McPhee award 2026.

A member of the Big Judo Club in Auckland Noah has for the last few years been living overseas training and competing, progressing himself individually, as well, as getting some very good results on the Judo front.

Noah’s big goal for 2026 is to medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Jim McPhee award is setup to help fund an athlete who is not already receiving funding, and it is to be used for their Judo development and especially towards future selection for the Commonwealth and / or Olympic Games.

This past Tuesday, at our final session of the school term, our Big Judo kids took part in their very first grading! 🥋

It was a fantastic turnout, and we couldn’t be prouder of how everyone performed. The kids showed great effort, confidence, and some really solid technique across the board.

We also took the time to recognise those who consistently demonstrate the Big Judo values, with a few well-deserved trophies handed out on the night.

A huge congratulations to everyone who graded — an awesome achievement and a big step forward in your judo journey. Well done, team! 💪

NEW ZEALAND JUDO JUDOKA OF THE YEAR 2025
Noah Walliss
Noah began his judo journey at ‘Big Judo City’ in July 2015. In 2019, he committed to nine months in Sydney Australia training at ‘Zenbu’ and again relocating to the UK at ‘Camberley Judo’ in 2022 for a dedicated three‑year training block. As of 2025, he has returned to Sydney and is now training full‑time at Zenbu.
This sustained commitment and sacrifice have shaped Noah into an internationally competitive judoka, and he is now working towards selection for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
