Having so much coverage of Bowls New Zealand Bowlers and Para Bowlers was a great showcase for the sport of Bowls.

It highlighted how bowls is a great sport where players of all ages and abilities are able to participate against each other in friendly camaraderie.

Bowls Maraetai is a social competitive club that welcomes interested locals and looking especially for more tamariki to join our young members.

Wednesday 10 June the final of the Women’s First Year Singles was held.

A keen contest was expected between current Junior Year 1-5 Singles champion Paula Johnstone and Janine Hickmore current Open Singles champion.

The conditions were great sunny with no wind at all so it was a contest solely on length and line of bowls delivery.

Both competitors produced some very good draw bowls which were appreciated by those members who came to watch the contest. On a number of heads the score was decided by the final bowl.

At the conclusion Paula was the winner being able to achieve some precision bowls when they were needed, Janine was a worthy runner up on this occasion.

Congratulations to both players on their performance, there are sure to be some more tussles next season.

Hoffman Cup
Open Drawn Handicap Pairs
Saturday 28th March

We had 10 teams enter and they were challenged initially by heavy dew and a cool fog cover.
As the rinks dried and the mat and air temperature rose conditions were changing.
Tight matches confirmed that the handicappers do a great job .
After the three rounds of 12 end games there were only two pairs with three wins.
Ends won and points scored were used to determine the winners being Andy Collier and Raymond Coates, runners up Dion Dollimore and Nigel Oliver.
Thanks to the 20 players for a good competition.

Look who we secured to coach us - the dynamic and impressive Selina Goddard - Woman’s World Number 1 in November 2025 💪

Selina simply loved our Club uniform (referencing our Club as being modern and united 😊), including the personalised shirt we presented her with that has her birthday day on it ❤️

Will we see Selina play in Bowls Maraetai kit - you never know, her bowling career started in East Auckland and we left a lasting impression as we’re known for 😊
