“‘Ia Ora na Ahuu
About last night Upa Upa class just wanted to say it was amazing. It was incredibly easy to follow and the sound was amazing! I’ve danced with live drumming before but I don’t know what was it or if playing is always like this but the echo the instruments make is unbelievable, it felt like there was people chanting along the pehes in the room with us it was full of Mana I was so amazed. I also realised I don’t know my pehes as well as I thought I knew them from dancing 😅 so I am super excited to join this term because I think it will improve my dance a lot more.
On the Uturere side great as always 💖 incredibly easy which was unexpected (even for a easy song) maybe it’s the format where we also help each other, maybe it was the mix of levels, I could feel it flowing pretty well. Felt a little bit like Amui on Tuesdays where we all somehow attune to each other 🥳 Māuruuru” Brene San Germán

(You can now register here: www.ahuuranui.com)
We feel incredibly blessed to have TEHAKAIKI as part of the Ahuuranui Tahiti whānau.
Tonight, after leading our ʻUpaʻupa (Traditional Tahitian Drumming) class, he treated everyone to a short demonstration of his talent and all we could do was stand there in amazement.
Watching him play with both hands independently, with such speed, precision and feeling, reminded us that we’re learning from someone who has dedicated countless hours to mastering his art.
But what impressed us even more than his talent was his willingness to share it. Throughout the evening, he taught with patience, humility and encouragement, making everyone feel welcome regardless of their experience.
At Ahuuranui Tahiti, one of our goals is to create opportunities for our young Māʻohi artists to teach, inspire and pass on their knowledge to the next generation. We’re proud that by joining our programmes, our community is helping support talented cultural practitioners like TEHAKAIKI while strengthening the future of Māʻohi arts here in Aotearoa.
This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.
Māuruuru roa, TEHAKAIKI. We’re honoured to have you as part of the Ahuuranui Tahiti whānau. 🌺🥁
