🏀 Mainlands Tournament – Days 1 & 2 Wrap Up

Our representative teams have put in some fantastic performances over the first two days of the Mainland Tournament, with plenty of hard-fought games, big efforts, and exciting basketball on display.

💚 U16 Boys Green
✅ Def. Nelson Blue 85–58
✅ Def. Canterbury Silver 87–81
❌ Lost to South Canterbury Black 79–92

A strong pool campaign sees the boys through to the **Quarter Finals tomorrow**, with their opponent and game time still to be confirmed.

❌ Lost to Marlborough U16 B 39–95
❌ Lost to South Canterbury Green 66–106

The results don't reflect the determination this group has shown. They have continued to compete hard and represent Basketball Mid Canterbury with pride.

✅ Def. Canterbury Red 47–40
❌ Lost to Otago 35–85

The girls bounced back brilliantly after their opening game to secure a great win over Canterbury Red and have continued to battle in every contest.

✅ Def. North Canterbury Black 103–78
✅ Def. South Canterbury 93–76
🤝 Def. North Canterbury Maroon 66-85(Friendly – not counted towards pool standings)

An outstanding tournament so far sees the U19 Men finish their pool strongly and progress to the **Quarter Finals tomorrow**, with their opponent and game time to be confirmed.

🏀 U16B Boys Team Profiles 🏀

Our U16B Boys are excited and ready for the Mainland Championships!

This team has worked hard all season, improving every week and enjoying every chance they get to play together. They're a great group who always bring plenty of energy to training and games, and they're looking forward to the challenge of competing against teams from across the South Island.

Coached by Caleb Ede, the boys are ready to represent Mid Canterbury.

Round 2 is underway in the NBS Men's Grade and the competition is heating up!

Nomads strengthened their hold on top spot with a 115-83 win over Eagles, while FDWNZ picked up a crucial 76-73 victory over Checkers in a thrilling contest.

With Nomads now leading the ladder and the remaining teams separated by just one point, every game is proving vital in the race for the championship.

🏀 U16 Girls Team Profiles 🏀

Our U16 Girls are excited to be heading to the Mainland Championships, where they'll have the chance to test themselves against teams from across the South Island.

This group has shown great commitment throughout their preparation, bringing plenty of enthusiasm, determination, and team spirit to every training and game. They've built strong connections on and off the court and are looking forward to representing Mid Canterbury with pride.

Coached by Yasmin Larry and Latoya Cooksley, the team is ready to embrace the challenge ahead.

One thing we've already learned from their player profiles is that this group has some big achievements and even bigger imaginations—apparently there are a few Mt Everest climbers among them! And if the profiles are to be believed, their coach Yasmin might just be the most popular people in basketball. 😄
