Two people have climbed to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City, unfurling a large black flag.

The masked people appear to know ball, and have allegedly signed up to ref for the remainder of the 2026 season.

STATEMENT - For immediate release

After a brief but intense negotiation period (approximately 24 hours), LeBron James and his manager Rich Paul have agreed to sign a one-year, $0-per-season contract with the North Harbour Rugby Referees Association, effective immediately.

Referee Manager Ryan Nixon expressed his excitement at the acquisition:

“What a signing. This is huge for us. Honestly, it’s even better news for my social basketball team, the Inner Southwest Hauraki Blowfish. We haven’t won a game since 2007.”

When asked to assess James’ refereeing credentials, Nixon added: “Wouldn’t have a clue.”

James was asked for comment. He has not returned our calls.

James is expected to take charge of his first fixture this weekend, overseeing the North Shore v East Coast Bays Premier 2 semi-final.
