Bonjour South Africa! French pilots Timo Leonetti and Clement Latour just flew 500km+ in South Africa. Timo (Gin Boomerang 12) flew 562km (542km free distance) over 10 hours, while Clement (Ozone Zeno 2) flew 542km (525km free distance). Flying 500km in South Africa is rare! Nevil Hulett did it first, back in 2008, when he flew 507km (free distance) to claim the world's first 500km paraglider flight and a world record at the time. And we think no one has done it since. Chapeau to both pilots. Sebastien Kayrouz holds the current paragliding world record with a 609.9km flight in Texas in June 2021.


It's worth noting that XContest distance is measured via three turnpoints, while official records are measured in a straight line from start to finish - what is known as 'free distance'. Also, this flight has not yet been verified for airspace.
