Subham Kumar Wins Unite Nepal Through Chess Tournament

Subham Kumar of Bhogalpur Chess Academy emerged as the champion of the Unite Nepal Through Chess Tournament after scoring an impressive 8 points from 9 rounds.

Bhaktapur's Swarnim Duwal, who also finished with 8 points, secured second place on tiebreaks, while Kumar Bik of Bhojpur finished third. Suman Moktan of Dolakha claimed fourth place.

Champion Subham Kumar received a cash prize of NPR 25,000, while runner-up Swarnim Duwal earned NPR 20,000. Third-place finisher Kumar Bik received NPR 15,000, and fourth-place finisher Suman Moktan was awarded NPR 10,000.

In the women's category, Radhika Poudel finished first, Pooja Bhandari secured second place, and Denisa Puri finished third.

The tournament attracted 240 players from Nepal and India, including participants representing 76 districts of Nepal.

Since 2024 (2081 B.S.), Dr. Mohan Singh Pradhan has been sponsoring the tournament with the vision of fostering emotional unity across Nepal through chess. Pradhan stated that this edition of the tournament was organized in memory of his father-in-law Sahadev Karmacharya and mother-in-law Janaki Karmacharya.

Sherpa, Baruwal, Bajracharya and Pant Share the Lead After Five Rounds

The Unite Nepal Through Chess-2083 FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament – Below 1800 witnessed an exciting battle at the top as four players maintained perfect scores after the completion of Round 5 at British Model College, Chakupat, Lalitpur. The tournament is being organized by Thapathali Chess Park sponsored by Dr. Mohan Singh Pradhan. The nine-round Swiss-system event is being played on July 4–5 with a time control of 10 minutes plus 10 seconds increment per move.

The players with a perfect 5/5 score after Round 5 are:

Ngima Sherpa (Taplejung)
Sandesh Baruwal (Okhaldhunga)
Sanuraj Bajracharya (Lalitpur/Thapathali Park Chess Club)
Hardik Pant (Kanchanpur)

All four players remain unbeaten and are jointly leading the standings with five points, setting up an intense race for the championship in the remaining rounds.

With four rounds still to be played, the competition for the title remains wide open as the leaders prepare to face increasingly tougher opposition in the concluding stages of the tournament.
