The approach to Sasso Piatto in the Dolomites is absolutely stunning. After reaching a car parking at around 1'400m, we walk a long traverse across green fields. The vertical stone walls of the Dolomites are all around us.

L'avvicinamento al Sasso Piatto, nelle Dolomiti, è assolutamente mozzafiato. Dopo aver raggiunto un parcheggio a circa 1400 metri di altitudine, si percorre un lungo sentiero attraverso verdi prati. Le pareti rocciose verticali delle Dolomiti ci circondano da ogni lato.

Si scorge anche il ghiacciaio della Marmolada, la vetta più alta della regione! Restate sintonizzati per le foto del Sasso Piatto nel prossimo post!

In summer, the Dolomites are a green heaven. This is the perfect place to escape the European summer's heat wav,es. Approximately 2'000m above sea level, in the midst of flowers, grass and peaks, the refuges offer rest for body and soul.

We are approching the Sasso Piatto, which we will attempt to summit. The weather looks undecisive - we are equipped for rain, but the hope is not to get drenched!

In estate, le Dolomiti sono un paradiso verde. È il luogo perfetto per sfuggire alle ondate di calore estive europee. A circa 2000 metri sul livello del mare, immersi tra fiori, erba e cime, i rifugi offrono riposo per corpo e anima.

Ci stiamo avvicinando al Sasso Piatto, che tenteremo di scalare. Il tempo sembra incerto: siamo equipaggiati per la pioggia, ma speriamo di non bagnarci completamente!

Un ambiente assolutamente mozzafiato.

This is the view near the Sella massif of the Dolomites! In a day where the clouds graze the sky like fluffy sheep, the valleys are painted by light and shadow!

Today we are making our way to the flattest summit of the Dolomites: the name is Sasso Piatto, 2'964m above sea level. It translates to english literally to "Flat Rock", an odd name for a nearly 3'000m mountain!

Ecco il panorama nei pressi del massiccio del Sella, nelle Dolomiti! In una giornata in cui le nuvole sfiorano il cielo come pecorelle soffici, le valli si tingono di luci e ombre!

Oggi ci dirigiamo verso la cima più pianeggiante delle Dolomiti: il Sasso Piatto, a 2.964 m sul livello del mare. Il nome si traduce letteralmente in "Roccia Piatta", un nome curioso per una montagna di quasi 3.000 metri!

Here are the Vajolet Towers, an iconic landmark in the Dolomites landscape. A very steep, scrambling rock path brings us to the Rifugio Re Alberto (2'621m), at the feet of the Towers.

Of course, the stylish climber at the summit is never missing in the Dolomites. It does beg the question - how the heck did he get there?! The rock looks impervious from here!

I am often speechless at the technical exloits of my fellow climbers - well done!

Ecco le Torri del Vajolet, un punto di riferimento iconico nel paesaggio delle Dolomiti. Un sentiero roccioso molto ripido e accidentato ci conduce al Rifugio Re Alberto (2.621 m), ai piedi delle Torri.

Naturalmente, l'elegante alpinista in vetta non manca mai nelle Dolomiti. Viene spontaneo chiedersi: come diavolo ci è arrivato?! La roccia sembra invalicabile da quassù!

Rimango spesso senza parole di fronte alle prodezze tecniche dei miei compagni di scalata: bravi!

For those looking for a technical challenge, the dolomites are heaven on hearth. On every side steep and pointy peaks climb up towards the sky, and the routes are limitless.

Riuscite a individuarli? In questo terreno roccioso, mentre saliamo dal Rifugio Vajolet (2.234 m), i veri scalatori sono tutt'intorno a noi.

Per chi cerca una sfida tecnica, le Dolomiti sono un vero paradiso. Da ogni lato si ergono cime ripide e appuntite verso il cielo, e le vie di arrampicata sono infinite.

The Marmolada (3'343m) is the tallest mountain in the Dolomites. It also hosts one of the few glaciers in this region, the omonimous Marmolada glacier, wich infamously collapsed in July 2022 taking the lives of 11 climbers.

Steep and rocky as the rest of the Dolomites, the Marmolada is composed of limestone and coral stones from the times this entire region was submerged!

I can imagine fish and crostaceans swimming near the reef, swimming right next to where we are walking today. Absolutely fascinating!

La Marmolada (3.343 m) è la montagna più alta delle Dolomiti. Ospita anche uno dei pochi ghiacciai di questa regione, il famigerato ghiacciaio della Marmolada, tristemente noto per il suo crollo nel luglio 2022, che causò la morte di 11 alpinisti.

Ripida e rocciosa come il resto delle Dolomiti, la Marmolada è composta da calcare e rocce coralline risalenti al periodo in cui l'intera regione era sommersa!

Posso immaginare pesci e crostacei nuotare vicino alla barriera corallina, proprio accanto a dove stiamo camminando oggi. Assolutamente affascinante!

Rifugio Vajolet sits at 2'243m above sea level, easily accessible after a 1 hour walk in the pleasant woodland below.

The main attraction here are the Vajolet Towers, a group of six extremely rocky technical summits - more photos coming soon!

Il Rifugio Vajolet si trova a 2.243 metri sul livello del mare, facilmente raggiungibile con una passeggiata di un'ora nel piacevole bosco sottostante.

L'attrazione principale sono le Torri del Vajolet, un gruppo di sei cime rocciose estremamente impegnative dal punto di vista tecnico - altre foto in arrivo a breve!

The Dolomites are recognised as UNESCO Wolrd Heritage Site for their beauty and their geological history. Back in the Triassic period, some 250 million years ago, the Dolomites were a marine reef hosting incredible diversity of life!

What I find most impressive is the sheer rock faces, hundreds of meters tall, and the moltitude of stone pinnacles and towers. An absolute heaven for rock climbers

Le Dolomiti sono riconosciute come Patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'UNESCO per la loro bellezza e la loro storia geologica. Nel periodo Triassico, circa 250 milioni di anni fa, le Dolomiti erano una barriera corallina marina che ospitava un'incredibile biodiversità!

Ciò che trovo più impressionante sono le pareti rocciose a strapiombo, alte centinaia di metri, e la moltitudine di pinnacoli e torri di pietra. Un vero paradiso per gli scalatori.

Dolomites! A road trip with mom and we are in to Soraga, Trentino, right in the middle of the Dolomites, a UNESCO world heritage site. Absolutely amazing place!

Dolomiti! Un viaggio in auto con la mamma e siamo arrivate a Soraga, in Trentino, proprio nel cuore delle Dolomiti, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO. Un posto assolutamente incredibile!

Una delle sensazioni più belle del tornare a casa è ritrovare gli animali domestici, sani e rilassati come sempre! Il gatto che sembra una tigre si chiama Jack, la splendida gatta bianca e nera si chiama Colla e il cane arancione si chiama Asso.
