Hoofddorp Hatha Yoga Beginners
An insight on Yoga and weight loss

Hoofddorp Hatha Yoga Beginners
Often we wonder if yoga helps with weight loss.
It is true that intense forms of yoga like Vinyasa help increasingly with the traditional burn-calories-and-build-muscles paradigm of weight loss. But the less active form like Hatha yoga when practiced regularly, not only keeps our weight in check but also helps us become more mindful and aware within and outside our body.
Some fun facts on how the less active forms of yoga help to manage weight:
1. Yoga helps our body respond to stress effectively by reducing heart rate and blood pressure in stressful situations. Less stress is better weight control as stress pushes hormones that manage appetite, out of balance. Stress makes us look for comfort food. So if we manage stress, we manage our weight better.
2. Yoga helps to sleep better. Poor sleep increases ghrelin - the 'hunger hormone'.
3. Yoga helps to be more at ease and worry less, thus controlling cortisol, the stress hormone that makes us crave sugar.
So if you have to make a NEW YEARS RESOLUTION this year, why not invest in your health. Send a message now to Hoofddorp Hatha Yoga Beginners and sign up for a free trial lesson!

11 Nov 2022 Asana of the week
Chaturanga Dandasana – Four Limbed Staff Pose
Benefits – Like in plank exercises, Chaturanga Dandasana often referred to as Chaturanga, aligns your whole body and builds strength in the muscles around your spine. Stronger muscles help improve core strength, posture and stability.
Chaturanga is an excellent addition to your yoga flow routine as it helps improve body strength, stability and alignment.
How to do - It is often used in Sun Salutations (Suryanamaskar). When flowing from plank you move into Chaturanga before you go into cobra or upward dog. For beginners you could use your knees while moving from plank to cobra. You could practice Chaturanga independently before incorporating into Suryanamaskar. It is essential to warm up your wrists before practicing Chaturanga.
Chakra – Chaturanga invokes the third chakra, Manipura located in the solar plexus. A balanced Manipura increases your confidence, determination and courage.
Contraindications – Beginners to this pose should avoid this asana if pregnant or complain of intense pain in shoulders, back and wrists while practicing. It is essential to listen to your body, understand and respect its limitations while practicing yoga. Yoga is after all a journey. Honest and consistent practice will eventually get you to where you wish to be!
