Batavierenrace 2026 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️💨

For the first time in many years, Euros Sailing participated again in the 54th edition of the Batavierenrace. This relay race from Nijmegen to the University of Twente campus in Enschede is known as the largest relay race in the world and covers no less than 175 km divided over 25 stages.

With 23 enthusiastic members, the race was split into a night, morning, and afternoon team. Along the way, our runners had to deal with beautiful (perhaps even slightly too warm) running weather. Fortunately, everyone showed up in stylish team shirts sponsored by . The atmosphere in the shuttle buses and support cars was great as well!

Overall, the race went smoothly, although a few clumsy transitions and one wrong turn added some extra adventure along the way. On top of that, we received penalty time for double running, having a male runner participate in a women’s stage, and taking an incorrect route during the race. Despite this, everyone gave it their all, and we are incredibly proud of the entire team for finishing the race with a time of 16:32:41.

After finishing at the U-Track, everyone enjoyed a cozy barbecue, and of course the famous Batavierenrace parties could not be missed. After this year’s success, we hope to return next year with another enthusiastic team for the 55th edition!

🇳🇱: Zin in een avondje chaos?🍷 📅Op 10 maart organiseert de Zeilcie: Escalatie Bowlen! 🎳🍻
We hebben 1,5 uur de baan én 2 uur gratis drank geregeld. De schade: €27,50 p.p. 💸
We hebben minstens 12 mensen nodig, dus meld je aan op Sail‼️ Je hebt tot 8 maart de tijd om je in te schrijven.

🇬🇧: In the mood for a chaotic night? 🍷 📅 On March 10, the Zeilcie is organizing: Escalation Bowling! 🎳🍻
We’ve arranged 1.5 hours of bowling and 2 hours of free drinks. Costs: €27.50 per person 💸
We need at least 12 people, so sign up at Sail‼️ You can register until March 8.

🇳🇱: Het is weer februari en dat betekent natuurlijk maar een ding: de vaarkalender staat online! De ZeilCie heeft hard gewerkt om het komende seizoen weer vol te plannen met de leukste zeilevenementen. De kalender is vanaf nu te vinden op Sail, dus neem snel een kijkje en schrijf je direct in voor je favoriete events :)

🇬🇧: It’s February, which can only mean one thing: the sailing calendar is online! Our Sailing Committee (ZeilCie) has worked hard to pack the upcoming season with the best events. You can find the calendar on Sail right now, so take a quick look and sign up for your favorite events immediately :)

🇳🇱: Deze maand is er veel tijd om te klussen. Iedere maandag is er klusavond en er is deze maand zelfs een klusweekend. Schrijf je in op de website om hiermee te helpen. Daarnaast hebben wij deze maand zoals altijd borrels, met deze maand ook de zeezeilborrel!

🇬🇧: This month there is al lot of time to do maintenance on our boats. Every Monday is a maintenance evening, and this month we are even organizing a maintenance weekend. Sign up on the website if you would like to help.
In addition, as always, we will be having drinks, including this month the sea sailing drink!

Maintenance season

🇳🇱: De bootjes zijn alweer een tijdje het water uit. Dit betekent ook dat het klusseizoen inmiddels al in volle gang is. Elke maandagavond wordt er eerst samen gegeten waarna we ons verplaatsen richting de loods en het klussen kan beginnen. Ook zijn er verschillende klusweekenden, houd hiervoor vooral SAIL in de gaten. Ervaring is niet nodig, alles zal je worden uitgelegd!

🇬🇧: The boats have been out of the water for a while now. This also means that the maintenance season is already in full swing. Every Monday evening, we first have dinner together, after which we move to the shed and the maintenance work can begin. There are also various maintenance weekends, so keep an eye on SAIL for more information. No experience is necessary, everything will be explained to you!

Kiekje van de maand: Match racing

🇳🇱: Elk jaar zeilen we meerdere keren teamzeilwedstrijden. Zo ook afgelopen November de Braassemcup. Er was dat weekend helaas niet zoveel wind, dus moesten we wachten tot er wind was om wedstrijden te varen. De helft van ons team had nog nooit geteamzeild, dus dat we uiteindelijk 3e zijn geworden was een hele prestatie.

🇬🇧: Every year we sail several team racing events, including the Braassem Cup last November. Unfortunately, there was very little wind that weekend, so we had to wait for suitable conditions before we could race. Half of our team had never competed in team racing before, so finishing in 3rd place was a great achievement.
