Geospatial Lessons from Cape Coral’s Urban Design

A satellite view of Cape Coral, Florida, reveals a dense network of streets and canals—a legacy of transforming former mangrove swamps into a city built for single-family homes with boat access.

While visually striking, this highly geometric layout also illustrates how urban design decisions can have long-term consequences. Limited commercial zoning, numerous dead-end streets, rapid population growth, and increasing flood risks all place pressure on the city's infrastructure. Homes built before 2005 are particularly vulnerable to storm surge flooding.

Southern Concentration of Canada's Population

Electric Car Adoption Rates in Europe 2025

A map from IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2026 shows wide variation in the percentage of new car sales that are electric across Europe for 2025. Norway leads with 97% of new sales being pure electric vehicles, while Denmark follows with up to 96% in some segments. Other notable figures include Sweden at 71% and the Netherlands at 58%. The US, by contrast, saw just 6.5% EV sales. Differences in national tax policies, strong incentives, and the definition of 'electric' (BEV vs. PHEV) influence these rates.
