Speckles on the Silhouette

The next chapter of Nexus is now on the drying shelf.

A series of pedestal bowls, expected mid-September. Around the same time, I’ll slowly start making work available through the online shop again.

For a while, I kept my calendar mostly clear so I could focus on my own research and work in the studio.

That time gave me more than new work. It also changed the way I look at making, and at the small decisions that shape a piece. I’m now looking forward to sharing some of that again.

Private studio sessions are open for everyone, with or without experience. You can come with something specific you want to work on, or spend a few hours making and see where it takes you. I’ll guide where needed, but there is plenty of space to work in your own way.

The studio is available for small groups, private workshops and (half-)day meetings for teams who would like to work or think together in a different setting.

I still have a few openings in September. Send me a message if you’d like to know more or check my website.

Can’t wait to have you back in the studio! 💛

Ik spreek trouwens ook gewoon Nederlands, dus bericht me gewoon in de taal die voor jou het prettigst is.

No. 74

Sometimes things go wrong. Today a shelf (including this piece) came down. Entirely my own fault, a moment of inattention, and it took 15 works with it.

After the initial shock my motivation came back and I spend the rest of the afternoon and evening working on a project with black clay. 🖤

I kept the broken pieces. I’m sure there will be still something to explore with them

It’s been a little quieter here, but I haven’t been sitting still 👐🏼.

Sometimes my brain works best when I take a little distance from my work. This summer I’ve mostly been occupied with the flowers on my balconies (I’ll share some of that in stories soon) and refining my sourdough bread. So I’ve still been working with my hands, just a little less with my head.

In the meantime, some new works have appeared on the shelves and I finished two series within the Alta 100 project: *Ode to the Cylinder* and *Abundance*.

*Abundance* especially was well outside my comfort zone. I worked with exaggerated forms and added elements, pushing the pieces much further than I normally would. Not everything came naturally, but that was exactly what made the series so useful to work through.

And now there’s a full kiln ready for bisque firing 🔥
