The Breathing Space

Delen

In the heart of de Baarsjes at The Breathing Space we offer Ashtanga, Mysore and classical Vinyasa y

We believe in honest traditional teaching methods that have stood the test of time. Our ambition is to encourage and support every student in their yoga practice as a path to self-discovery and self-empowerment. A practice that goes beyond the mat and beyond the physical. And just like yoga was passed on thousands of years ago, we respect and honour the long term relationship between teacher and student.

This October, I welcome my teacher Swami Prem Sadasivananda to The Breathing Space for a weekend inside the Bhagavad Gītā — its teachings on attachment, right action, the Self, and devotion. Explored through talks, meditation, and kirtan.

Whether you join for one evening or the full three days, it’s a rare chance to sit with a teacher whose scholarship and warmth go hand in hand.

A small ask . . .

We’re hosting our first Ashtanga & Restorative Yoga retreat this September in Portugal, and we’re deep in planning mode. To everyone who’s already signed up — thank you, we can’t wait to have you there.

A lot of you have said you’re interested but haven’t booked yet. That’s completely understandable — committing in advance isn’t easy, and cost is often part of it. If payment plans would help, just ask, we’re happy to find something that works for you.

We’d love to hear from you even if you’re not sure yet. Getting in touch doesn’t commit you to anything — it just helps us plan properly, and we’re finalizing numbers soon.

If Portugal in September has crossed your mind at all, message us and let us know where your head’s at. Even “still thinking about it” is a helpful reply.

3 years of sniffin’ butts and crotches in the studio and demonstrating the most perfect adho mukha svanasana ❤️

You make our little community so much richer. Eternally grateful for your love.

This September, Tracey Ingram and I are leading a week-long retreat on Portugal’s Atlantic coast.

September 6–12 · Monte Velho, Aljezur

Ashtanga mornings, Restorative afternoons, leisurely vegetarian meals, ocean air, space to breathe and just be. Tracey’s Restorative work is some of the most generous and skilled I’ve encountered — think personalized savasana setups and deeply supported rest.

No Ashtanga experience needed. Just a willingness to show up.

€1,200 – €1,700 depending on room type. All meals, all yoga, six nights included.

Spots are limited. Link in bio for the full details, or DM me with questions.

The Listening Space is back this Sunday.

Once a month we gather to reflect, share, and ask the questions that don’t always fit into a led or mysore class. It’s a space to explore yoga beyond the mat — the philosophy, the inner work, the things that keep showing up in your practice.

This month’s theme: What should your practice look like?

We’ll sit with questions like — how does practice take shape? How does it adapt over time? Does it need to look any particular way at all?

Bring your thoughts, your struggles, your lived experience. Or just come and listen.

Every morning I make my way to The Breathing Space while de Baarsjes is still asleep. Souf is always first through the door — straight to his spot on the warm cork floor while I do the rounds: tea on, lights on, incense lit, kibble in his bowl. And then the only thing that really matters: coffee.

We’re ready when you are. Come practice with us — whether that’s Mysore in the early morning, a led class, or the much talked about Yoga Church on Sundays. Link in bio for the full schedule.

Intention isn’t always something we formally set.
Often it’s already there—woven into the act of returning continually to the breath.

In times when practice begins to feel habitual or disconnected, gently naming an intention can help us reorient. Not to fix anything, but to listen again and return to presence.

This Sunday at 12:45, we’ll explore intention in The Listening Space.

This month’s theme in The Listening Space has been echoing through my own life in ways I didn’t expect. Studentship — the willingness to meet what arises with clarity, humility, and attention — has shown up for me not only in practice, but in the places where old patterns surface and relationships ask for deeper listening.

If these reflections resonate, you’re welcome to join us on Sunday as we explore On Being a Student.

Yoga begins with listening — to breath, to body, to the moment you’re in (and sometimes, listening to Souf when he comes to check on you 🐶💛).

If you feel called toward deeper study, our breath-centered Yoga Study & Teacher Training begins January 2026.
