The Tour de France used to be a bikepacking race 🤔
I rode 158 km on gravel to watch it, and here’s why….
Over 100 years ago, Tour riders raced on dirt and rocky roads, carried their own food, and fixed their own bikes. No team cars. No mechanics. No support.
The biggest race in cycling started a lot more like today’s ultra-distance adventures than the Tour we know now 🙌
Not the Tour de France start I expected 🫣
But much more….

BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION in ultra cycling ➡️nobody tells you when you start!
📷 Thank you for this amazing photos .of.me
My first Transiberica I went all in. No sleep, non stop, doing exactly what the media told me ultra cycling was supposed to look like.
Second time around I came back solo, and the race had a mandatory 4-hour sleep rule.
Honestly, it changed everything for me!
I rode faster during the day. My head was clearer. I actually enjoyed the route. And somewhere along the way I realised, a rested version of me is a better cyclist than a destroyed version of me at 3am.
This photo is from that second race, Transibérica 2025, Col du Petit Saint Bernard at sunrise. The night before I slept 6 hours, woke up, and waited for the light to come up over the mountain instead of riding through the dark and missing it completely.
It was the absolute highlight of the race! 😍
I think this myth, that you have to suffer through the night to be a real ultra cyclist, is one of the biggest things that puts people off signing up, especially women.
When I started I fell straight into that trap because it was all I ever saw portrayed. It took me 5 years and a lot of trial and error to understand that there’s another way.
Rest is part of the strategy 🌟

Recap 26 🙌
I loved discovering the hidden gems of Cataluña along such a beautiful route. The atmosphere of the event and the rider community made it even more special.
One of the biggest highlights for me was watching the sunrise from El Turó de l’Home, at the top of Montseny 🌟These are the moments you only get to experience in ultra cycling when you push yourself beyond your comfort zone and end up in places you would never go otherwise.
But the best part is always sharing these adventures with my husband🤍 The laughs, the challenges, and all the little moments along the way are what I treasure most.

Part 1: Therm-a-Rest Hyperion 32F/0°C Sleeping Bag
After freezing in Patagonia because I brought the wrong sleeping bag, I decided to invest in a proper one. 💸
Its standout feature is the hydrophobic-treated down, which keeps you warm while repelling the moisture and humidity that build up inside your tent.
