“If you were an Igbo man, I would have detained you.”

A Nigerian based in the United Kingdom was stopped by a police officer while driving a Lexus SUV.

The officer checked all the vehicle documents and the driver’s licence and confirmed that everything was complete. Despite finding no fault with the documents, he seized the driver’s licence and told the driver to “bring something”—a demand for money.

The driver refused, insisting that all his papers were complete and that there was no reason to pay anything.

The officer then said:

“If you were an Igbo man, I would have detained you. I would have told you to park and go and give us something.”

The situation later escalated, drawing the attention of other police officers.
