Words are powerful
As a counsellor, the complaint I hear most in sessions is "Do you know what they said to me? I don't think I can ever forgive them."
It was just one sentence, just one moment but it carried years of pain. A simple PAUSE would have helped.
Before you react... PAUSE
Before you assume... PAUSE
Before you judge... PAUSE
Choose words that heal, not break
Choose tones that heal, not hurt
Choose to be a parent/guardian or a person people feel safe around.
People especially teenagers carry words spoke over them. Years later, they still remember the words that broke them, the harsh tone and labels that made them shut down.
Let's practice the PAUSE, choose kindness and our words carefully.

NOT ALL GOOD FITS EVERY MOMENT...
A friend from the western part of Nigeria who read my book asked, "What’s so special about Rivers Native Soup, and why did you use it as an illustration?”
My response...
Do you know the ingredients that go into preparing Rivers native soup?
Snail, crab, fish, periwinkle, prawn, ngolo (sea snails/whelks), ofingo (shellfish), shrimps, crayfish… all richly combined and well garnished, then served with pounded yam or fufu.
Now you understand, abi?
I chose Rivers native soup because the soup makes sense…if you know, you know.
It was the perfect illustration to show that life is not just about making good choices, but making the right choices at the right time. That simple example carries a deep message about intentionality and preparation. Honestly, this is just one of many practical and relatable lessons in "Discovering Your Identity: A Guide to Greatness for Teenagers and Young Adults, a book designed to help young people live more intentionally and prepare for the future they desire.
You’ll definitely enjoy the insights in the book. Please, see link in the comment for details to get a copy.
