New Month Message by Cdr D**e Alabo Awhayi GCSSC State Commander

Dear Gallant Brigadiers,

Warm greetings to you all.

This is to remind every officer and member that the WAI Brigade Rivers State Command Annual State Camp is scheduled to hold in August 2026. As we prepare for this important event, let us also renew our commitment to the growth, unity, and advancement of our great State Command.

The progress of our Command must remain a continuous subject of discussion and action. We cannot afford to become complacent or indifferent. Every meaningful achievement begins with a shared vision, deliberate planning, and collective effort.

There is a popular saying: "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day." This reminds us that wisdom, resilience, and strategic thinking are essential in overcoming challenges. No matter the circumstances we face today, we must remain steadfast and keep the light of WAI Brigade shining by encouraging and supporting one another.

Let none of us adopt the mindset that, "My Area Command is doing well, therefore all is well." The strength of the WAI Brigade Rivers State Command is measured by the collective progress of every Area Command and every member. We rise together, and we succeed together. Just as a family thrives through unity, so must our Command.

Our members look up to us for leadership, guidance, motivation, and inspiration. As officers, we must therefore lead by example through discipline, diligence, integrity, selfless service, and an unwavering commitment to duty. The future we desire will only be built by the sacrifices we are willing to make today.

Let us continue to foster love, unity, mutual respect, and cooperation among ourselves. With a shared purpose, sound judgment, and determination, we shall build a stronger, more vibrant, and more respected WAI Brigade Rivers State Command.

As your State Commander, I remain fully committed to the vision, welfare, and continuous progress of our State Command. My resolve is to work tirelessly with every committed officer and member to restore our Command to its rightful place of honour, excellence, and recognition.

I therefore encourage every one of us to actively contribute ideas, initiatives, and constructive suggestions on this platform on how we can reposition our State Command for sustainable growth and development. The journey has already begun, and it is a journey that requires the dedication and participation of every willing hand.

By the special grace of God, brighter days lie ahead for the WAI Brigade Rivers State Command. Through our collective efforts, selfless service, and unwavering faith, we shall witness a new era of progress, unity, and renewed strength.

Let us join hands as one family, united in purpose and driven by our shared vision of building a Command that future generations will be proud to inherit.

Together, we shall succeed.

Thank you, and may God Almighty bless the WAI Brigade Rivers State Command and every one of us.

REPOSITIONING THE WAI BRIGADE FOR NATIONAL SECURITY AND COMMUNITY SERVICE - By Soala Bob-Manuel, Esq.

The War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade, established in 1984, was conceived as a patriotic initiative to promote discipline, order, civic responsibility, and national development.

Despite its noble objectives and the sacrifices of its members, the Brigade has not received the level of institutional recognition and welfare accorded to other community-based security outfits.

Today, organisations such as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),

registered local vigilante groups, OSPAC,

and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)

have all been accorded varying degrees of legal recognition and operational support, thereby enabling them to contribute meaningfully to public safety while providing sustainable livelihoods for their personnel.

It is therefore imperative that the Federal Government and relevant legislative authorities undertake a comprehensive review of the legal and operational framework governing the WAI Brigade.

Such reforms should provide for its formal integration into Nigeria's community safety architecture, with appropriate statutory recognition, structured remuneration, professional training, and clearly defined operational responsibilities.

The era of limiting the WAI Brigade to ceremonial activities and outdated public perceptions should give way to a modern, professional, and service-oriented institution capable of complementing existing security agencies in maintaining peace, law, and public order.

Any expansion of its operational responsibilities should be subject to due process, statutory regulation, and all applicable laws governing public safety.

Thousands of patriotic Nigerians would gladly support and engage the services of a professionally regulated WAI Brigade dedicated to promoting peace, discipline, and tranquillity across our communities.

The time has come for meaningful reform.

The WAI Brigade deserves recognition, empowerment, and an opportunity to fulfil its founding mandate in service to the nation.

Furthermore, it is my considered view that the Federal Government and the National Assembly should examine the possibility of enacting an appropriate legal framework that would permit duly screened, professionally trained, certified, and licensed WAI Brigade personnel to carry approved small fi****ms strictly in the course of their official duties where operationally necessary.

Such authority should be subject to rigorous background checks, mandatory training, continuous oversight, accountability mechanisms, and full compliance with the relevant provisions of the law governing fi****ms, public safety, and human rights.

If implemented within a robust statutory and regulatory framework, this reform could strengthen the Brigade's capacity to complement existing security agencies in protecting lives and property while maintaining peace, law, and public order.
