A Tale of Two Lives:

Left side (A): The epitome of success - wealth, status, and power - but at what cost? A life of solitude, where material possessions fill the void, but the heart remains empty.

Right side (B): A life of simplicity, filled with genuine relationships, laughter, and memories that transcend material wealth, where love and connection are the greatest riches.

THE WOMAN BEHIND THE DOOR
Part 2.......

******The Truth About Nathen

The lights went off.

Everything became silent.

I couldn't move.

I could hear my own breathing.

“Amara…”

My father's voice came from the darkness.

“Who are you talking to?”

I held my phone tightly against my chest....

I didn't answer....

A few seconds passed.....

Then I heard his footsteps coming toward me.....

One step.

Two steps.

Three.

I quickly moved backward until my back touched the wall.

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

His voice sounded unusually calm....

“Why are you awake?”

I swallowed.

“I… I couldn't sleep.”🛌🛌

Silence....

Then the lights suddenly came back on.🔦🔦

My father stood in front of me.

I looked at him....

He looked at me....

For a moment, neither of us spoke....

Then his eyes fell on the wooden box....

My heart stopped....

“Where did you get that?”

I couldn't answer....

He walked toward me....

“Amara, where did you get that box?”

I stepped backward.....

“Under your bed.”🛏️

His face changed....

Not anger....

Fear....

Real fear....

“Who told you to look there?”

“Nobody.”...

He looked toward the door....

Then back at me....

“Did Victoria see you?”

I didn't answer....

“Amara!”

“Yes.”

My father's face went pale...

“What did she tell you?”

I stared at him....

“She told me to ask you who Nathen is.”

The room became completely silent.

My father sat on the edge of the bed.

He covered his face with both hands....

For the first time in my life, I saw my father cry....

Not the kind of crying where someone wipes away one or two tears.

He was shaking.

“Daddy…”

He looked up at me.

“Your mother was supposed to tell you everything when you turned eighteen.”

My heart began beating faster.

“Tell me what?”

He looked away.

“But she never got the chance.”

*****I sat beside him....

“What happened to Mummy?”

He didn't answer....

“Daddy, please.”

His eyes became wet.

“Your mother was afraid.”

“Of who?”

He looked directly at me.

“Nathen .”

I froze....

“Who is Nathen?”

My father stood up and locked the bedroom door.....

Then he closed the curtains.

“nathen was your mother's younger brother.”

I stared at him.

“My uncle?”

He nodded....

“But why have I never heard of him?”

“Because after your mother died, Daniel disappeared.”

“Disappeared where?”

“I don't know.”...

“You're lying.”

My father looked at me....

I had never spoken to him like that before.

“You're lying to me.”

He sighed.

“I wish I was.”

He opened the wooden box again.

Inside were several old photographs, documents and letters.

He picked up one photograph.

It was my mother.

She looked happy.

Beside her stood a young man.

The same man from the photograph I had found earlier....

“That's Nathen.”

I touched the photograph.

“He looks like Mummy.”

“They were very close.”

“What happened between them?”

My father remained silent.

Then he whispered:

“Money.”

*****My mother and Nathen had inherited a piece of land from their parents.

According to my father, Nathen wanted to sell it.

My mother refused.

She believed the land belonged to the family and should remain untouched.

The argument became serious.

Then Nathen disappeared for several months....

When he returned, my mother was already married to my father.

And everything changed.

“He threatened your mother,” my father said....

My heart sank....

“What did he say?”

“He told her that if she didn't give him the documents to the land, she would regret it.”

“Did she tell you?”

“Yes.”

“Then why didn't you report him?”

My father looked down.

“Because your mother begged me not to.”

“Why?”

“She said Daniel was still her brother.”

I couldn't believe it....

“So what happened on July 14?”

My father closed his eyes.

“That night, your mother received a phone call.”

“From Nathen?”

He nodded.

“She left the house.”

My heart stopped.

“She left?”

“Yes.”

“Where did she go?”

“I followed her.”

“Then what happened?”

My father hesitated....

“I lost sight of her.”

I stared at him.....

“What do you mean you lost sight of her?”

“There was a problem with my car. I stopped on the road. By the time I reached the place where she said she was going…”

His voice broke.

“She was already unconscious.”

I covered my mouth....

“Who found her?”

“I did.”

“Was Nathen there?”

My father looked at me.

“No.”

“Then how do you know he was responsible?”

“I don't.”

The room suddenly felt cold.

“What?”

My father whispered:

“I never said Daniel killed your mother.”

******I stood up.

“Then why did Mummy write his name?”

“I don't know.”

“Why did you hide all these things?”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“From who?”

He didn't answer.

“Daddy!”

He looked at me.

“From the person who was in this house that night.”

My blood ran cold.

“Who?”

Before he could answer, we heard something fall outside the room.

BANG!

My father immediately stood up.

He opened the 🚪

Nobody was there....

But something was lying on the floor....

A small brown envelope.

My father picked it up....

His hands started shaking.

“What's inside?”

He didn't answer.

I grabbed it from him.

There was writing on the front.

FOR AMARA....

I opened it.

Inside was a letter....

The handwriting was unmistakable.

It was my mother's handwriting....

I started reading....

«My dearest Amara,

If you are reading this, then I am no longer there to protect you.

There are things about your father that you must know.

Do not hate him until you know the whole truth.

And whatever you do, never trust the woman behind the door.»

I stopped reading.

I looked at my father.

“What woman?”

He didn't respond.

I continued...

«She knows what happened to me.

She was in this house on the night I died.

And she is closer to you than you think.»

My hands began trembling.

I looked toward the bedroom door.

Victoria was standing there.

She had been listening.

Her eyes were filled with tears.

My father turned around.

“Victoria…”

She didn't speak.

I stared at her.

“You knew.”

She slowly shook her head.

“I didn't kill your mother.”

“Then what happened?”

She wiped her tears.

“I tried to save her.”

My father shouted:

“Enough!”

Victoria flinched.

I looked between them.

“You both know what happened.”

Nobody answered.

“Tell me!”

Victoria began crying.

“Your mother was alive when I found her.”

My heart shattered.

“What?”

“She was breathing.”

My father looked at Victoria angrily.

“Don't.”

But she continued.

“I found her on the floor that night. She was barely conscious.”

“Why didn't you take her to the hospital?”

Victoria looked at my father.

Then back at me.

“Because someone had already warned me.”

“Who?”

She couldn't speak.

“WHO?”

Victoria whispered:

“Your father.”

I stared at my father.

“No…”

My father shook his head.

“Amara, listen to me.”

But I stepped away from him.

“You told her not to save my mother?”

“No!”

Victoria cried.

“He told me that if I called anyone, you would be taken away from him.”

My father shouted:

“That's not what happened!”

“Then tell her the truth!”

Silence.

My father looked at me.

His eyes were full of tears.

“I was scared.”

“Of what?”

He lowered his head.

“Because I knew your mother was going to expose someone.”

“Who?”

He looked at Victoria.

Victoria looked away.

Then my father said something that destroyed everything I thought I knew.

“Your mother discovered that Victoria and Nathen had been working together.”

I couldn't breathe.

Victoria shook her head.

“No…”

My father continued.

“They wanted the land.”

I looked at Victoria.

“You?”

She cried.

“I never wanted your mother dead.”

“Then why did you lie?”

“I was afraid.”

“Afraid of Nathen ?”

She shook her head.

“Afraid of what he would do to my son.”

I froze.

“Your son?”

Victoria wiped her tears.

“My son was involved.”

I couldn't speak.

“What is his name?”

She looked at me.

And whispered:

“David.”

My heart stopped.

David.

My stepbrother.

The quiet boy who had left home three years earlier.

The boy everyone said had moved abroad.

The boy whose photograph was still hanging in the living room.

I suddenly remembered something.

Three nights before my mother died, I had seen David arguing with her.

I had forgotten.

Until now.

I looked at my father.

“Where is David?”

Nobody answered.

Then my phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

I looked at the screen.

One message.

“STOP ASKING QUESTIONS.”

Another message arrived immediately.

“YOUR MOTHER ASKED TOO MANY QUESTIONS.”

Then a final message.

“NOW YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HER.”

I stared at the screen.

My hands were shaking.

Then I heard a car stop outside the house.

Victoria's face suddenly changed.

My father rushed to the window.

He looked outside.

And whispered:

“God…”

“What?”

He didn't answer.

I walked toward the window.

A black car was parked outside.

The driver's door opened.

A man stepped out.

He slowly looked toward our house.

Even from a distance, I recognized him....

I had seen his face in my mother's photograph.

Nathen....

My mother's brother.

The man everyone believed had disappeared seventeen years ago.

He looked directly at my bedroom window.

Then he smiled.

My father grabbed my arm.

“Amara, run.”

I looked at him.

“Why?”

He locked the bedroom door.

“Because Nathen didn't come here to talk.”

A loud knock came from downstairs.

KNOCK.

Everyone froze.

Another knock.

KNOCK. KNOCK.

Then a man's voice echoed through the house.

“Brother…”

My father closed his eyes.

Nathen was here.

And he knew I had discovered the truth.

THE WOMAN BEHIND THE DOOR
Part 1...
**The Day Mother Died....

The rain started the night my mother died☔☔

I was only seven.

I remember sitting beside her on the old wooden 🛏️, holding her cold fingers while the rain beat heavily against the zinc roof...

“Mummy,” I whispered, trying not to cry. “Please don't sleep.”

She opened her eyes slowly.

They were weak, but there was something in them that frightened me.

Something that made me feel she already knew she was leaving.

“Amara…”

“Yes, Mummy?”

She struggled to raise her hand and touched my cheek.

“Whatever happens…”

She coughed.

I started crying 😭😭

“Don't cry, my baby.”

“Mummy, you will get better.”

She smiled😁😁

It was the last smile I ever saw.

“Promise me you will never trust everybody who calls themselves family.”

I frowned😾😾

“I don't understand.”

“You will.”..

She reached beneath her pillow and pulled out a small brown envelope.

Before she could give it to me, the door suddenly opened.

My aunt stood there.

“Ezinne, what are you doing?”

My mother immediately hid the envelope beneath the bedsheet.

“Nothing,” she replied.

My aunt stared at her for a few seconds.

Then she looked at me.

“Amara, go outside.”

“But—”

“Go!”

I ran out.

That was the last conversation my mother ever had.

Less than twenty minutes later, I heard screaming.

I rushed back inside.

“Mummy!”

She wasn't moving.

People gathered around her.

Someone covered her face with a white clothes..

I grabbed the cloth and screamed.

“No! No! Mummy is not dead!”⚰️⚰️

Nobody answered me...

I shook her body...

“Mummy, wake up!”

An elderly woman pulled me away.

“She is gone.”

Gone.

That word stayed inside my head for years.

My mother was gone.

And I was seven years old.

***Three months later, my father remarried.

Her name was Mrs. Victoria Okoro.

I still remember the first day she entered our house.

She wore a beautiful red dress and carried a small handbag.

She looked at me.

I looked at her.

She smiled.😁😁

“Come here, my daughter.”

I didn't move.

My father pushed me gently.

“Amara, greet your new mother.”

I swallowed.

“Good afternoon.”

She hugged me.

But something about that hug felt strange.

It was tight.

Too tight.

She whispered into my ear.

“Don't worry. You will learn to love me.”

I pulled away.

She smiled again.

Nobody noticed the coldness in her eyes.

Except me...

At first, Victoria was kind.

She bought me new clothes.

She braided my hair🧒🧒

She cooked my favourite food.

Whenever relatives visited, she would pull me close and say,

“This is my daughter. I love her so much.”

Everyone praised her.

“She is lucky to have such a good stepmother.”

I believed them.

Until I turned nine.

That was when everything changed.

One morning, I broke a glass while washing plates.

Victoria slapped me.👋👋

The sound echoed through the kitchen.

“Look at what you've done!”

“I’m sorry, Mummy.”

“Mummy?”

She laughed bitterly.

“Don't call me that.”

I froze.

“I am not your mother.”

I started crying.

She leaned closer.

“Your mother is dead. Don't ever forget that.”

Those words broke something inside me.

From that day, the woman everyone called my loving stepmother became my worst nightmare.

****She stopped buying me things...

She stopped sending me to school with lunch....

Sometimes, she locked the kitchen and told me there was no food...

But when my father came home, she would smile.....

“Amara has been disturbing me all day.”....

My father would look at me.

“Why are you giving your mother problems?”

I wanted to tell him....

I wanted to scream....

But Victoria always stood behind him.

Watching me....

Warning me without saying a word.

So I kept quiet....

Years passed...

I became seventeen....

And one evening, something happened that changed my entire life.

I was cleaning my father's old room when I found a photograph....

It was a picture of my mother....

She was standing beside my father...

But there was another man in the photograph....

A man I had never seen before....

I turned the photograph over....

There was writing behind it.....

“If anything happens to me, ask Nathen what happened on the night of July 14.”

My heart stopped.

July 14❓❓

That was the night my mother died...

I read the sentence again....

Then again....

My hands began shaking....

Who was Nathen?

And what happened that night?

****That evening, I waited until everyone had gone to bed.....

I quietly entered my father's room.

I opened the wardrobe...

Nothing....

I searched the drawers🗃️

Nothing....

Then I noticed a small wooden box underneath the bed....

It was locked....

I found a key inside an old shirt pocket....

My heart began beating faster...

I opened the box....

Inside was an envelope....

My name was written on it....

AMARA!!

I nearly dropped it....

Why would my father have something with my name on it?

I opened the envelope....

There was only one sentence.

“Your mother did not die naturally.”

My breath disappeared....

I read it again....

Then suddenly—

CRASH!

Something fell outside the room.

I froze....

Someone was standing in the corridor....

I quickly hid the letter beneath my clothes....

The door handle began turning.

Slowly....

I stepped backward.

The door opened 🚪

Victoria stood there...

She looked at me...

Then her eyes moved toward the wooden box🗃️

For the first time in my life, I saw genuine fear on her face.

“What are you doing here?”

I couldn't speak....

She walked toward me...

“Amara…”

Her voice was shaking.

“What did you find?”

I swallowed.

“Nothing.”

She stared at me.

Then she smiled.

But this time, the smile wasn't warm.

It was terrifying.

“You shouldn't have opened that box.”

I stepped backward.

“Why?”

She came closer....

“Because your mother made the same mistake.”..

My entire body went cold.

“What did you just say?”

Victoria suddenly covered her mouth....🤫🤫

She realized she had said too much..

I stared at her....

“You knew something about my mother's death?”

She said nothing.

“Victoria!”

She grabbed my arm.

“Listen to me carefully.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“If you love your father…”

She paused.

“…you will forget everything you saw tonight.”

I pulled my arm away.

“What happened to my mother?”

She looked at me.

And whispered:

“Ask your father who Nathen is.”

Then she walked away.

I stood there, completely frozen.

That night, I couldn't sleep.

At exactly 2:13 a.m., my phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

One message.

“AMARA, DON'T TRUST YOUR FATHER.”

I stared at the screen.

Another message arrived.

“YOUR MOTHER WAS MURDERED.”

My heart began pounding.

Then a third message appeared.

“AND THE PERSON WHO KILLED HER IS STILL LIVING IN YOUR HOUSE.”

I slowly looked toward my bedroom door.

It was slightly open.

Someone was standing on the other side.

I couldn't see the face.

But I recognized the voice.

“Amara…”

It was my father's voice.

“Who are you texting?”

I couldn't breathe.

And then—

The lights went off.......

If you think you know what happened to Amara’s mother, don't be too sure. .....

Because Part 2 is where the real secret begins.”

“Follow me and turn on your notifications, because you don't want to miss Part 2.”...
