🇶🇦 QATAR 1-1 SWITZERLAND 🇨🇭

Qatar produced a dramatic late comeback to earn a historic point against Switzerland in their opening FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B match.

The Swiss looked set for victory after Breel Embolo calmly converted a 17th-minute penalty, and they dominated large spells of the contest with 26 shots compared to Qatar's 7. Switzerland controlled possession, created numerous chances, and repeatedly tested goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada.

However, Qatar refused to give up. Led by the creativity of Akram Afif and inspired by a resilient defensive display, the Asian side stayed in the contest despite sustained pressure from their European opponents.

Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time when a dangerous delivery into the box caused panic in the Swiss defence, resulting in a dramatic equaliser that secured Qatar's first-ever FIFA World Cup point. The result leaves Group B wide open after the opening round of matches.

🇨🇭 Breel Embolo (17' pen)
🇶🇦 Akram Afif

A point that feels like a victory for Qatar, while Switzerland will be left wondering how they failed to take all three. 🌍⚽🔥
