The Yucateco Southwest Boxing Championship is set to light up Abeokuta as top boxing talents from across the Southwest region prepare to battle for glory in an event aimed at promoting grassroots boxing and discovering future champions.

The championship, organized by Yucateco Boxing Promotions, is expected to bring together skilled fighters, coaches, officials, and boxing enthusiasts in a thrilling showcase of talent, discipline, and sportsmanship. Organizers say the competition is part of ongoing efforts to revive and strengthen boxing culture in Nigeria while creating opportunities for young athletes to gain exposure and develop their careers.

Speaking ahead of the event, the promoters emphasized their commitment to building a stronger boxing structure in the country through regular competitions, athlete development programs, and support for officials and coaches. They also noted that the championship will serve as a platform to identify promising boxers capable of competing at national and international levels.

The tournament is expected to deliver intense bouts across different weight categories, with fans anticipated to witness exciting performances from some of the region’s rising boxing stars. Beyond the action in the ring, the event also aims to inspire youths and encourage greater participation in sports as a tool for empowerment and social development.

**Yucateco Southwest Boxing Championship Set For Abeokuta**

As part of efforts to discover and nurture emerging boxing talents in the region, Africa's most structured boxing outfit Yucateco Boxing Promotions is set to stage a first of its kind Southwest Developmental Boxing Tournament in Abeokuta.

The championship aimed at propelling a new generation of boxers will be held in the Ogun State capital in June 2026.

For the initiator and sponsor of the highly anticipated event, Hon. Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, who also serves as the Southwest Boxing Zonal Representative and Vice President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) the tournament which will be held quarterly reflects his desire to develop and expose emerging talents in the squared ropes sports.
