International Friendly: Super Falcons edge Senegal’s Lionesses 2-1 in Ikenne-Remo
Cup-holders Super Falcons on Friday opened their 14th WAFCON preparations with a controlled 2-1 victory over Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in Ikenne-Remo, asserting authority early and managing the contest with composure for long spells.
The breakthrough arrived on the half-hour mark when Nigeria earned a penalty kick, and veteran forward Asisat Oshoala stepped forward with assurance to convert in the 32nd minute. It marked a significant return for the forward, making her first appearance for the Super Falcons since the WAFCON 2024 final, and she delivered with the calmness expected at that level.
Nigeria maintained their intensity after taking the lead, circulating possession with purpose and probing the Senegalese backline. Their persistence was rewarded eleven minutes later when Toni Payne doubled the advantage, finishing off a well-worked attacking move. Like Oshoala, Payne was also making a return to the national team set-up after her last appearance at the WAFCON 2024, and her contribution showed the depth and experience within the squad.
The Super Falcons controlled proceedings for much of the encounter, dictating tempo and limiting Senegal’s attacking openings, but the visitors found a response late in the game. In the 86th minute, Senegal pulled one back to halve the deficit, setting up a brief spell of pressure which Nigeria managed effectively to see out the result. This fixture marked the first-ever meeting between the Super Falcons and the Teranga Lionesses, adding a layer of significance to an encounter that also serves as part of both teams’ build-up to the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Both sides will face each other again in a second friendly at the same venue in Ikenne-Remo on June 8, as preparations continue. Head Coach Justine Madugu and his squad remain focused on fine-tuning their approach ahead of the tournament in Morocco, where the Super Falcons will be aiming to successfully defend their continental title.

2026 President Federation Cup: Bendel Insurance in Round of 32 battle with Crown FC
...as Boboye charges players to deliver
Bendel Insurance Football Club will on Monday,June 1,2026 file out against Crown FC of Ogbomoso in the Round of 32 of the ongoing President Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos State.
The match is scheduled to kickoff at 4pm at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos.
The 2023 Champions , according to the manager Kennedy Boboye will be approaching the game with all seriousness, noting that there is no second chance in challenge Cup.
Boboye added that there is no room for complacency as all the clubs that qualified and come this far are not pushovers.
" We face Crown Football Club in Lagos and I have reminded our boys to approach the match as if it is the final match. Being a premier league club does not guarantee your victory over NNL or NLO clubs. You must work for the result you want to achieve."
" We know Crown FC and they are a good side no one can just brush aside. So,we are in Lagos to fight for what we want which is to qualify for the next round as our focus is now only on the federation cup. Our's is to take every match one after the other and let's see how it shapes out in the end. " Boboye said.
Bendel Insurance FC began the 2026 Federation cup in the round of 64 with 2-1 victory over Katsina Utd Junior.
Kayode Oke scored twice to help Bendel Insurance FC come back from a goal down to beat Katsina United Junior at the Area 3 Football pitch in Abuja last week Tuesday evening to progress to the round of 32.
The Benin Arsenals' opponents Crown FC on the other hand beat Cynosure Football Club 2-0 in Anyingba, Kogi on Wednesday last week to advance to the round of 32.
The two teams now face each other in the Round of 32, hoping for a place in the Round of 16 where they will face the winner of just relegated El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri and Akwa United of Uyo.
