The origin of our Open Practice came from RIMYI (RAMAMANI IYENGAR MEMORIAL YOGA INSTUTUTE).

COMMUNITY - We Learn From One Another
At RIMYI, self-practice is one of the most deeply observed and valued aspects of the practice. Practitioners of different levels share the same space, each absorbed in their own practice, yet quietly learning from one another.
A correction received.
A demonstration observed.
A question asked.
A teacher’s instruction remembered.
A practitioner’s way of approaching an asana noticed.
Nothing is learned in isolation.
In the hall, we learn not only from our teachers, but also through observing, listening and practising alongside one another. The experience of the community becomes part of our own learning.
And in turn, what we discover through our practice may become a small contribution to someone else’s journey.
No practitioner grows alone.
Community is not simply being together.
It is learning together
growing together
and generously allowing our practice
to illuminate the practice of others.

This morning, one of our students brought her home-baked burnt cheesecake to class. It was so beautifully presented, it honestly looked better than something from a shop! 😍
And someone else brought some rare pink guavas. 🩷
After today’s class, we had a little celebration for everyone’s Happy Unbirthday!
It’s these little surprises, shared treats, and moments together that make our yoga community so special.

Supta Virasana, introduced stage by stage. 🧘♀️
Some had knee issues, some had ankle injuries, and some had lower-back concerns. Yet, with learning actions and adjusting support, everyone eventually settled into their own optimum Supta Virasana.
The belt was used as a reference guide for the action of the thighs—not as a restriction. The aim was to keep it “loose-fit” while maintaining the right direction and awareness of the legs.
A beautiful reminder that there isn’t one single shape that everyone needs to fit into. 🙏
