Mangroves are among the world's most valuable ecosystems. They protect coastlines, support rich biodiversity, sustain local livelihoods, and store significant amounts of carbon, making them indispensable in strengthening resilience to climate change.

In Malaysia, ongoing conservation efforts driven by scientific research, ecosystem restoration, and community engagement are helping to safeguard these vital coastal habitats. These initiatives demonstrate how collaboration and innovation can deliver sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

At ISTIC under the auspices of UNESCO, we recognise the critical role of science, technology and innovation in advancing environmental sustainability. Through international collaboration, capacity building, and knowledge sharing across the Global South, we support evidence-based solutions that foster resilient communities, healthy ecosystems, and sustainable development.
