INTERVIEW TIP: โTELL ME ABOUT YOURSELFโ
This question sounds simple, but many candidates make it much harder than it needs to be.
When an interviewer asks you to introduce yourself, this is not the time to start from childhood and work your way forward. ๐
Instead, give them a quick snapshot of your professional story.
Talk about:
โ
What you currently do or your most recent experience
โ
The skills youโve developed
โ
A few experiences that are relevant to the role
โ
What you can bring to the position
Then connect it back to why youโre interested in the opportunity.
Think of your answer as a professional introduction, not your autobiography.
Keep it focused, confident, and relevant. Aim to make the interviewer want to know more.
And don't wait until interview day to figure out what you're going to say.
Prepare it. Practise it. Then make it sound natural.
Your first answer can set the tone for the entire interview.
๐ Save this for your next interview and share it with someone who needs it!

๐ฏ A Great Interview Is About More Than Good Answers
You can have an impressive CV and the right qualifications, but how you show up in the interview can make all the difference.
Before the big day, make sure you:
โ
Know what the company does and why you want to work there
โ
Prepare a few thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer
โ
Think of real examples that demonstrate your skills and achievements
โ
Understand the role and the key skills it requires
โ
Practise answering questions clearly without sounding overly rehearsed
โ
Be ready to talk about teamwork, problem-solving, and how you handle change
โ
Pay attention to your body language, tone, and overall professionalism
And don't overlook the simple things:
๐ Dress appropriately
๐ Take a copy of your CV and relevant documents
๐ Carry a pen and notepad
๐ Give yourself enough time to arrive without rushing
๐ Walk in with a positive and confident mindset
One more thing: don't try too hard to give the "perfect" answer.
Be prepared, but be yourself.
The strongest candidates aren't necessarily those who have memorised the best responses. They're the ones who can communicate their value naturally and have a genuine conversation.
Preparation builds confidence.
Confidence helps you make an impact.

Thinking of updating your CV this weekend?
When I worked in recruitment, weekends were often when candidates refreshed their resumes before sending out applications the following week.
After reviewing hundreds of CVs, I noticed that a few small changes could make a big difference.
Here are a few tips I'd always recommend:
โ
Customize your CV for each application. A generic CV rarely tells employers why you're the right fit for their role.
โ
Read the job description carefully. Pay attention to the skills and experience they're looking for, then make sure your CV reflects them.
โ
Show your impact. Instead of only listing your responsibilities, explain what you achieved, improved, or contributed.
โ
Keep it clean and easy to read. Recruiters often scan CVs quickly, so make your strongest points easy to find.
โ
Double-check the basics. Make sure your contact details are current and take a few minutes to proofread before you hit "Apply."
A well-written CV won't guarantee an interview.
But it will give recruiters a much better reason to keep reading.
๐ฌ What's one CV tip that has made a difference in your job search?

Two simple CV tips that many job seekers overlook:
โ
Include the software and tools you've worked with.
No matter if it's SAP, Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Sage, CaseWare, Canva, or Adobe Creative Suite, listing relevant systems helps recruiters quickly identify your technical skills.
โ
Name your CV professionally.
Before you send it, rename the file using your first and last name, for example: John_Smith.pdf. Avoid file names like CV_Final, Resume_New, or Latest CV v3.
These might seem like small details, but first impressions matter.
A recruiter should be able to identify both who you are and what you can use within seconds.
Sometimes, it's the simplest improvements that help your application stand out.
If you're looking to land the job of your dreams, and need support in preparing your CV, optimizing your LinkedIn profile, and/or nailing your next job interview, do not hesitate to reach out!

Your CV is often your first introduction to an employer. ๐
Before you click "Apply," take a moment to ask yourself:
Does my CV clearly show why I'm the right fit for this role?
A few simple checks can make a big difference:
โ
Customize your CV for the position you're applying for.
โ
Focus on results and achievements, not just day-to-day tasks.
โ
Keep the layout clean, organised, and easy to scan.
โ
Include relevant keywords that match the job description.
โ
Read through it one last time to catch spelling or grammar mistakes.
Your CV doesn't need to tell your entire career story.
It just needs to make a recruiter want to learn more.

A lot of people assume the best opportunities come from submitting applications. In reality, many of the strongest roles are filled through relationships, referrals, recruiters, former colleagues, and professional networks before theyโre heavily advertised.
But I wouldnโt say applying doesnโt matter.
A better way to put it is:
Applications help you enter the market.
Relationships help you move through it faster.
For example:
A strong CV can get you shortlisted.
A recruiter who knows your work can get your CV reviewed sooner.
A former manager can put your name forward before a role is even posted.
A professional connection can tell you about an opening weeks before it appears online.
In my experience, the candidates who had the most options were usually the ones who combined both:
โ A clear, well-positioned CV
โ A visible professional presence
โ Genuine relationships built over time
So yes, many of the biggest career opportunities do come through relationships โ but those relationships tend to work best when theyโre backed by strong skills, a clear reputation, and a profile that makes people confident recommending you.
A simple formula I often share:
Skills get you considered. Relationships get you remembered.
When both come together, opportunities appear much faster.

When I worked in recruitment, I used to focus heavily on typos and formatting mistakes.
These days? A spelling error is easier to overlook.
Whatโs much harder to overlook is a resume that reads like a copied-and-pasted job description.
Iโm far more interested in:
โ What you improved
โ What you solved
โ What you delivered
โ What changed because you were there
Anyone can list responsibilities.
Strong candidates show evidence.
Instead of writing:
โResponsible for managing projects and supporting the team.โ
Tell me:
โLed a cross-functional project that reduced delivery delays and improved client satisfaction scores.โ
Thatโs the difference between describing a role and demonstrating value.
If youโre job searching right now, stop treating your resume like a task list.
Use it as proof of the impact youโve made.
Recruiters donโt just want to know what you were assigned to do.
They want to know what happened because you did it.

Your resume opens the door.
Your skills and interview performance help you walk through it.
A strong resume should quickly answer:
What have you done?
What impact did you make?
Why are you a good fit for this role?
Recruiters often spend only a few seconds on the first review, so clarity matters more than fancy formatting.
If your resume is difficult to scan, your best achievements may be missed.
One simple improvement:
โ Responsible for managing customer service activities.
โ
Resolved 40+ customer inquiries daily while reducing response time from 24 hours to 8 hours.
Same role. Same experience. Different impact.
Whatโs one resume tip that has helped you in your job search? ๐

๐ฏ One of the biggest interview mistakes I see?
Candidates forget they're evaluating the company too.
Somewhere along the way, job searching became a performance.
People rehearse perfect answers, memorise scripts, and try so hard to avoid mistakes that they stop sounding like themselves.
But interviews are not auditions for a role you're desperate to get.
They're conversations designed to answer a simple question:
"Can we work well together?"
Having spent time in recruitment, I've seen candidates put employers on a pedestal and assume they need to prove their worth every second of the interview.
The reality is much simpler.
Behind every job title is a person.
Behind every hiring manager is a human being trying to solve a problem.
The strongest candidates aren't always the most polished.
They're often the ones who communicate honestly, ask thoughtful questions, and show up as themselves.
So prepare, absolutely.
But don't become so focused on saying the "right" thing that you lose your personality in the process.
A good interview isn't about pretending to fit.
It's about discovering whether the fit is genuinely there.
Because at the end of the day, both sides are looking for the same thing:
The right match.

๐ข Applying for jobs but not getting interview invitations?
The problem may not be the number of applications you're sending.
It may be how you're positioning yourself.
Many job seekers spend hours applying to dozens of roles each week, hoping that more applications will lead to more opportunities.
In reality, visibility and relevance often matter more than volume.
Before sending another application, ask yourself:
โ
Does my LinkedIn profile clearly explain what I do?
โ
Are my key skills easy for recruiters to find?
โ
Does my CV align with the requirements of the role?
โ
Am I highlighting achievements or just listing responsibilities?
โ
Am I applying for positions that genuinely fit my background?
A common misconception is that recruiters search for people who are actively looking for work.
Most of the time, they're searching for specific skills, industry experience, and keywords that match their vacancy.
The easier you are to find and understand, the more opportunities tend to come your way.
Your goal isn't simply to be available.
Your goal is to be visible to the right people for the right reasons.
๐ฏ A focused job search will almost always outperform a scattered one.
If you are interested in receiving guidance and support for your job search, including coaching on effective job search strategies, optimizing your LinkedIn profile and resume, and developing a career strategy, feel free to send us a ๐ฉ to schedule an introduction call and secure your spot. ๐
