Borneo Wave Project VI: Pearl Of The Andaman

The 3rd BWP this year brought qxmrlz._ to the Pearl of The Andaman, Langkawi. Unlike other surf destinations in Malaysia, Langkawi’s surf season starts as early as May, but ends by November.

Here, Q discovered new locations and connections. Working as a free lance surf instructor gave him more means to stay longer. Extra time to soak in the natural wonders of the enchanted island. Even managed to top the inagural Logging Patrol competition.

2 young Borneon guns, riding different boards, with different attitudes and different characters. Both leaping ahead of the pack, tenaciously pursuing foreign waves to further expand their surfing horizon. A perfect opposites, balanced.

A surf edit from the recently released BWP V, featuring the crew. It was filmed at Yeh Sumbul beach, 3 hours from Kuta, Bali. It was mostly beach breaks at Sumbul and there are plenty of points scattered along the beach. Surfers mostly surf at the point right in front of the Medewi Cafe & Surfshop cafe.

It got up to 5’ when we was surfing there but the locals did mention that it can get much larger. Depending on the point at the beach, and the conditions, you either get a fast punchy waves or a thick slow peeling perfections going both left and right.

This documentary/surf film, follow Candywax’s crew as they journey to the Island Of Gods. Kuta? Uluwatu? Ubud? Nope. Unlike the usual Bali surf trip, this time the journey takes on a different route, unlocking new locations and adventures. It was a life changing and an eye opening experience, where they learn to travel humble and seek meaningful bond with the locals.All while enduring the massive tourists traffic of which Bali is famous for. This trip took them from being a leisure seeking tourist, to connection driven travellers.
